LOCAL JOBS-GENERATING AGREEMENT CHAMPIONED BY COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRUSTEE JOSE SOLORIO
Unique Community and Student Workforce Project Agreement Includes “Local Hire” and “Helmets To Hardhats” Requirements for Construction Projects
Santa Ana, CA — The Rancho Santiago Community College District (RSCCD) Board of Trustees approved an agreement yesterday that will create thousands of local jobs while improving education facilities at Santa Ana College.
The agreement requires 66 percent of all those hired to work on upcoming construction projects at Santa Ana College to live in Orange County and 50 percent to live within the college district’s jurisdiction cities, including Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Anaheim, Orange, Tustin, Irvine and Villa Park. The measure will also help veterans to enter and succeed in construction through a “helmets to hardhats” program that has been implemented successfully in other communities. Present and past RSCCD students in local construction apprenticeship programs will also benefit under the agreement’s local hire program. Continue reading
When Ellie Soto, a student at Santa Ana College, posted this on Facebook: “The community of Santa Ana is asking for more green spaces and less drinking spaces. The city may have an increase in sales, business license, and income but it has become a very dangerous city to be in,” Santa Ana Councilman David Benavides immediately responded – “Really? Santa Ana has become a ‘very dangerous city to be in’? I would be very interested to see the statistics that the persons that are making this claim have to support this theory. In fact, Santa Ana crime statistics have been on a nose dive the last few years, in fact the OC Register wrote about it not too long ago. If someone has statistics that prove the OC Register or the SAPD wrong please present them to me, that would be very concerning to me.”

Fire investigators responded to Newhope Elementary School on Monday morning after construction workers found evidence that a portable toilet had been set on fire, according to the O.C. Register.
Who would burn a porta pottie at an elementary school? The OC Fire Authority also reported that it appeared that someone had tried to set metal playground equipment on fire, though only minor damage was evident. Continue reading

Suspect Arrested for Residential Burglary and Possession of Stolen Property
SANTA ANA, Calif. – (March 21, 2014) – On Sunday, February 23, 2014 Orange County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Natanael Garcia, 30, Orange, on suspicion of residential burglary and possession of stolen property. The Santa Ana City Council Tuesday voted unanimously to terminate the city’s contract with a red-light camera vendor that is the subject of a federal bribery investigation, with council members saying the nearly $500 fines associated with red light tickets are an excessive burden on residents, according to the Voice of OC.
However, the contract with Phoenix-based RedFlex Traffic Systems doesn’t expire until June, 2015 and city officials said the cameras must stay up until then because they can’t terminate the contract early.
You know that some of these Council Members must have voted for these cameras originally. Voters should certainly hold that against them in November. Continue reading

Advisory: Detectives request media and community assistance locating wanted Carjacking Suspect
Synopsis: On 02/26/2014 at approximately 9:45 P.M. suspect Joe Gamez approached the victim (a past acquaintance) and demanded money that he claimed was owed to him. Gamez then began to beat the victim with his fists as the victim sat in his truck. The victim was able to exit his truck and continued to be beaten by suspect Gamez. The victim dropped his keys on the ground as he was being assaulted. Suspect Gamez took the victim’s keys, entered his vehicle and drove away. Continue reading
