We will know by Monday who it is that signed Sherry Walker’s nomination papers to put her on the ballot for the 69th Assembly District. A friend of mine is going to retrieve the nomination signatures from the Orange County Registrar of Voters.

Walker, an unknown Republican, came out of nowhere to challenge for the seat that is currently held by Tom Daly, a career politician, and Democrat, who has previously serves as the Mayor of Anaheim and the O.C. Clerk-Recorder. Wherever he has gone he as reveled in political favors, nepotism and the wanton waste of taxpayer money. Continue reading→

Five Confirmed Measles Cases in Orange County

(Santa Ana) – The Orange County Health Care Agency has confirmed five cases of measles in Orange County in the last nine weeks, which is consistent with an increase seen throughout California. These cases raise the possibility that Orange County residents may be exposed to measles. The most recent case spent time in public locations in Orange County while contagious.

Staff at the Health Care Agency has been working with these locations to contact people who may have had a prolonged exposure to this case. The risk of developing infection after brief encounters with persons with measles is low, but as a precaution, people who were in the below locations around the same time as the individual with measles should: Continue reading→

Early morning water main break floods neighborhood at Pomona and S. Parton

A water main break at the 700 block of Pomona Street near South Parton Street sent water gushing down the streets in a Santa Ana neighborhood early Friday morning around 1:40 a.m., according to ABC News.

Santa Ana police and Orange County Fire responded to the scene, but were initially unable to shut off the broken main. Public Works officials were eventually able to turn the water off at 2 a.m., leaving soaked and muddy streets, according to CBS News. Continue reading→

Updated: Rigoberto Gomez dies after crashing on freeway and running off

A 29-year-old man was found dead in a Santa Ana neighborhood Thursday afternoon after apparently crashing his truck into a freeway median, then getting out and running away, the California Highway Patrol said, according to the OC Register.

UPDATE: The dead man has been identified by the Orange County Coroner as Rigoberto Gomez, 29, of Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

CHP spokesman Todd Kovaletz said witnesses saw the man driving recklessly in a 1992 Chevrolet 1500 pickup on southbound I-5 about 3:40 p.m. He lost control and hit a center-median wall before the truck came to rest in the right lane near Seventeenth Street. Continue reading→

Assemblyman Tom Daly won’t be getting a free pass in the June primary election after all! Santa Ana Unified School District Trustee Cecilia “Ceci” Iglesias will be challenging him as will a lady I never heard of named Sherry Walker.

Iglesias was the top vote-getter when she ran for the SAUSD School Board in 2012. She previously gathered 10,000 nominating signatures when she ran for Congress as an independent in 2010. She is now a Republican. Continue reading→

County of Orange and Discovery Science Center Present 2014 Eco Challenge Poster Contest

Celebrate Orange County’s 125th anniversary. Step up to bat for a sustainable Eco Future!

The challenge invites boys and girls between the ages of eight and fourteen (8-14) to use their imagination and get creative in designing a unique eco-themed poster. In celebration of the 125th anniversary of the County of Orange, the County is looking for young artists to create artwork demonstrating what the next 125 years will look like if we take the Eco Challenge and work toward a sustainable future.

“The County was pleased to introduce the Eco Challenge poster contest last year and the winners were thrilled with the Angels Bat Kid experience. Community Alert: Free Household Hazardous Waste Collection for Santa Ana Residents

SANTA ANA, CA (March 5, 2014) – On Saturday, March 8, 2014, the City of Santa Ana is sponsoring a free Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection event at Saddleback High School. Residents may transport up to 15 gallons or 125 pounds of waste per visit. Proof of residency is required utilizing a California driver’s license, water bill, or utility bill. Advisory: Second suspect in felony hit and run arrested

On Monday March 3 at 4:10 PM a 14-year-old girl was crossing against the red traffic signal and tried to run between two vehicles at the intersection of Bristol Street at 17th Street. She was hit by two vehicles, and both drivers left the scene. Adan Camacho (32) Santa Ana, the driver of a truck who first struck the victim never stopped to render aid. Officers eventually arrested and booked Camacho for felony hit-and-run, thanks to a Good Samaritan who followed the suspects truck and directed officers to the vehicle. Continue reading→

Planning commissioners have moved forward with a plan to build houses on the old Sexlinger property, and to save the century-old farmhouse and to preserve 10 orange trees of the more than 200 on the property, according to the O.C. Register.

But one Planning Commissioner voted against the compromise. Patrick Yrarrazaval, a Principal at the SAUSD’s Valley High School, spoke in favor of the conservancy’s 50/50 alternative as he voted against the compromise.

“I ask the question to the applicants, how much money do the two schools need to fulfill the desires of Martha Sexlinger?” Yrarrazaval said. Continue reading→

Former Santa Ana firefighters in hot water over insensitive t-shirt

A group of 15 former Santa Ana firefighters who now work for the OC Fire Authorityat Station 45 in Rancho Santa Margarita designed a t-shirt to raise funds for a memorial was intended to express pride in their own team, but now it’s being criticized as insensitive, according to ABC News.

The T-shirt shows Fire Engine 45 surrounded by figures with baggy clothing, a pit bull, a tamale stand, with a caption that reads: “There goes the neighborhood,” with “Rancho Santa Ana” written on top. Continue reading→
