Council Member Angie Amezcua MIA in Ward 3
We reviewed Santa Ana Councilman David Benavides’ official city calendar, for the month of June, 2013, yesterday. Today we are taking a look at Council Woman Angelica “Angie” Amezcua’s city calendar – and boy is it empty. Amezcua represents Ward 3 on the City Council.
While Benavides has spent 90% of his time outside of his Ward, Amezcua has done almost nothing in her own Ward.

COSTA MESA, CALIFORNIA (July 29, 2013) – In response to the Sandy Hook tragedy and other incidents of violence in the nation, there has been a call to protect children and create safer school climates. Proposed solutions include, hiring additional school resource officers, counselors, and mental health professionals, and promoting collaboration between schools and law enforcement in developing comprehensive emergency plans, which includes hands-on training. It would appear that Santa Ana Councilman P. David Benavides has forgotten which Ward he was elected to serve. He is supposed to be representing Ward 4 – but let’s take a look at his official June calendar and see what he was really up to last month:

Updated: First Baptist of Santa Ana votes to sell to Newsong Church
Updated: It is a done deal. The members of First Baptist of Santa Ana voted today 42-17 to sell their church to Newsong Church. The Board of Directors of First Baptist will now work out the details with Newsong’s Board of Directors. The deal will total $4 million dollars with $100,000 to be paid up front and the balance to be in the form of a Promissory Note.
According to FBCSA Director Sandy Nalle, First Baptist had perhaps six months to go before becoming insolvent. This deal will ensure that First Baptist will remain a church. Continue reading

The FBI confirmed today that a Task Force has been assembled from the FBI, IRS, District Attorney and U.S. Attorney’s Office to investigate reports of political campaign corruption in Orange County, California. As America’s most Republican County, it is not surprising that a Democrat Attorney General under a Democrat Administration would put powerful Republican politicians in their cross-hairs. But with Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas, a Republican and former Superior Court Judge, as part of the Task Force, my sources believe that over the next two months it is very likely the Supervisors homes will be raided and indictments will be issued for “pay to play” campaign corruption charges. Free hands-on workshops in fine art; creative writing / poetry; dance and music will be offered at OCCCA (the Orange County Center for Contemporary Art) from July 10 to August 17, 2013. $30K worth of paintings stolen from the Santa Ana Artists Village
Joseph Hawa, an artist at the Santora Arts Building, in Downtown Santa Ana, since 1999, lost eight to 10 paintings in a burglary. Hawa said that he discovered the theft Wednesday, and guessed that it may have taken place on Monday night or Tuesday, according to the O.C. Register. He said the paintings were worth about $25,000 to $30,000.

Man faces trial for beating murder of a toddler and abusing another child

SANTA ANA – A man will face trial Monday for the beating-murder of his girlfriend’s sister’s 18-month-old daughter and abusing another child in a similar way in 2009. Juan Carlos Aguilar, 27, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of murder, one felony count of assault on a child with force likely to produce great bodily injury resulting in death, and two felony counts of child abuse. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 31 years to life in state prison. Opening statements are expected to begin Monday, July 29, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-29, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. Continue reading
