Building a Strong California-Mexico Partnership

California and Mexico not only share strong historical and economic ties, but also a very close and cherished friendship. In March, I was privileged to introduce a delegation of four distinguished members from the Mexican National Senate to the California State Senate. Led by the Honorable Silvano Auroles Conejo, Vice President of the Mexican Senate, the delegation included Senators Adriana González Carrillo, Claudia Sofía Corichi García and Amira Gómez Tueme.

That same week, I was proud to co-host the 25th Border Legislative Conference (BLC), which convened in Sacramento March 28-30. Now in its 10th year, the BLC is comprised of legislators from the ten states along the U.S.-Mexico border: California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas. FOUR MEMBERS OF VIETNAMESE CRIMINAL STREET GANG CONVICTED OF 1995 COLD CASE EXECUTION-STYLE RETALIATORY MURDER

SANTA ANA – Four members of a Vietnamese criminal street gang were convicted today of the 1995 cold case execution-style murder of a fellow gang associate in retaliation for abandoning them while committing a home invasion robbery one day earlier. Anthony Paul Johnson, Jr., 35, Westminster, Giang Thuy Nguyen, 36, Fountain Valley, Tam Hung Nguyen, 36, Riverside, and Truc Ngoc Tran, 34, Santa Ana, were each found guilty by a jury of one felony count of murder and one felony count of conspiracy to commit murder with sentencing enhancement allegations for murder by lying in wait and committing a crime for the benefit of a criminal street gang. The sentencing enhancement against Johnson for murder to avoid arrest was found true. The sentencing enhancements for murder to avoid arrest and crime-bail-crime against Giang Nguyen were found true. The sentencing enhancement for the personal discharge of a firearm against Tam Nguyen was found true. All four defendants face a sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole at their sentencing June 8, 2012, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-43, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. New 69th A.D. poll shows Martinez, Daly and Moreno on top

A new poll of voters in the 69th Assembly District might be the reason that Orange County Labor and the OC GOP machine are trying to squeeze Republican candidate Jose Moreno out of the 69th A.D. primary.

According to the survey memo, “Democrats Tom Daly and Michele Martinez and Republican Moreno lead the pack.  Martinez leads all candidates among Latinos and leads Julio Perez, by 16 points. She also leads all candidates in Santa Ana – home to 60% of likely voters. Martinez is also likely to benefit disproportionately from the fact that Democratic women are among the most undecided subgroups in the district initially.  And when voters were read profiles of the three major Democrats and a shorter profile of Republican Moreno, Martinez moved into the lead.” Continue reading→

The Monarcos Santa Ana soccer club to host a pro Mexican team on April 11

The youth soccer organization Monarcas Santa Ana is signing with the professional Mexican soccer club, Monarcas Morelia, as their official Training Center in Southern California!  Their project CeFoMM Santa Ana [Centro de Formación Monarcas Morelia de Santa Ana] is quite an achievement for Santa Ana, as soccer is cherished as an integral part of our community.

Their goal is to develop the local youth soccer talent to the professional ranks. This partnership is highly relevant as many of the Santa Ana local residents and/or their families [even City Council members] hail from the state of Michoacán, México of which Morelia is the state capital. Why is the OC GOP joining with OC Labor in attacking a Republican candidate?

Chris Nguyen, a Republican blogger at the OC Political blog (a blog that promotes the OC GOP machine, not to be confused with the blog you are currently reading) who is also a staffer at Assemblyman Chris Norby’s office, launched a direct attack today on Jose Moreno (pictured above), the only Republican candidate for the 69th Assembly District.

Nguyen accused Moreno of violating the Hatch Act, which prevents most federal employees from running for partisan offices.  However, Moreno works for the County of Orange.  Nguyen tried to make the case that Moreno’s agency is funded by the federal government, but Moreno’s agency also receives funding from the State of California, and from local sources as well. If liberal 69th A.D. candidate Julio Perez is gay, does it really matter?

Apparently one of my readers insinuated that liberal Democrat Julio Perez, who is running for the 69th Assembly District (in last place according to a recent poll) is gay.

I tried to find the comment but could not.  However it appears to have set off Orange Juice bloggers Greg Diamond and Vern Nelson.  Diamond in fact immediately began to threaten me and he said that he would use the courts to force me to give up the IP address of the commenter who apparently insinuated that Perez is gay.
