Santa Ana, CA – The Democratic Foundation of Orange County has endorsed Bruce Bauer in the race for the Santa Ana Unified School District Board. Bruce Bauer currently the Vice-Chair of the City of Santa Ana Planning Commission.

Founded in 1983, the DFOC is comprised of a broad coalition of professional, business, labor, environmental, civil rights and political leaders who are dedicated to developing the financial resources to support an effective Democratic presence in Orange County. The DFOC is known for sponsoring high-profile events to increase the visibility of Democrats and Democratic ideas. Santa Ana, CA – Demonstrating his potent force in the race for the Santa Ana Unified School District Board race, Bruce Bauer, currently the Vice-Chair of the City of Santa Ana Planning Commission collected a major statewide endorsement from California’s State Treasurer John Chiang.

John Chiang is currently the Treasurer for the State of California and was elected to that position in 2014. Prior to Treasurer, John Chiang was the Controller for the State of California for the period from 2006 to 2014. He is widely regarded for his work both as the State Controller and Treasurer. A new Santa Ana Charter High School will host a town hall meeting on 9/29

A new high school is coming to Santa Ana, and its founders are seeking community input to shape it. La Escuela Freire is holding a town hall meeting Thursday, September 29, 4:30-6:00 p.m., at Centro Comunitario de Educación, 216 N. Broadway, in Santa Ana. Public input is welcome, especially from prospective parents, students, and teachers.

La Escuela Freire Academy for Culture, Leadership, and Civic Engagement hopes to work with Santa Ana Unified School District officials to plan the school, which intends to employ mostly current SAUSD employees. LEF’s board is composed of leaders and educators from Chapman and other Southern California universities. Continue reading→

A homeless man pulled a knife on two Madison Elementary students on Tuesday

Two students at Madison Elementary School had a knife pulled on them by a homeless male at around 5:40 pm on Tuesday. Madison is located at 1124 E Hobart St, Santa Ana, CA 92707.

The students were not injured, and SAUSD School Police responded quickly to apprehend the suspect. The homeless male was from Pomona and had a warrant out for his arrest. Continue reading→

SAUSD First Annual Wheelchair Tennis Event set for Friday, September 9, 2016

More than 200 students from Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) will participate in the First Annual SAUSD Wheelchair Tennis Event to be held at Mc Fadden Intermediate School on Friday, September 9, 2016. The matches will begin at 11:00 a.m. and end by 3:00 p.m.

The event is sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Santa Ana in conjunction with SAUSD, First Serve Santa Ana, and the United States Tennis Association. The purpose of the event is to demonstrate to all parties that athletes with disabilities can play the great game of tennis and have fun. Why is SAUSD School Board candidate Mark McLoughlin hiding his financial info from the public?

SAUSD School Board candidate Mark McLoughlin appears to be trying to hide his financial information from the public. McLoughlin was appointed to the Santa Ana Planning Commission in January so he had to turn in a Form 700, to the Santa Ana City Clerk. That Form, which you can see here, is completely devoid of any investments/businesses/loans/income information!

McLoughlin claims he is the General Manager of SKYCO Architectural Shading System and President of High School, Inc — yet he does not disclose any of these business connections on his Form 700 filed with the City of Santa Ana. In fact, he discloses absolutely NOTHING on his 700 Form. It surely seems that McLoughlin is avoiding disclosing info about himself. Continue reading→

Why did Santa Ana’s education unions reject every woman running for the School Board?

Today was Women’s Equality Day but we have not made much progress in Santa Ana. Our local education unions endorsed three men for the SAUSD School Board election in November. They did not even bother to interview the women in the race.

Now I cannot blame the Santa Ana Educators Association (SAEA) and the California School Employees Association (CSEA) Chapter 41 for not backing SAUSD School Board incumbent Cecilia Iglesias. She is a conservative who believes in school choice and wants to spend the district’s money on hiring more teachers and more teacher’s aides instead of just paying the teachers more. So of course the education unions don’t like her.

In the Santa Ana Unified School District board race, with three seats open, candidate Bruce Bauer challenged fellow Santa Ana Planning Commissioner Mark McLoughlin’s designation as “Educator/Business Owner,” according to the O.C. Register.

The Orange County Registrar of Voters upheld Bauer’s challenge, and McLoughlin changed his designation to “Education Business Advisor.” Continue reading→

SAUSD candidate Mark McLoughlin is lying to the voters – he is not an educator

SAUSD School Board candidate Mark McLoughlin is willfully lying to the voters by alleging in his ballot title that he is an “Educator.” That is simply not true. And he has been called on this lie by a resident of Santa Ana who filed a challenge to McLoughlin’s ballot title today at the Orange County Voter Registrar’s office.
