Advisory: SAPD looking for missing 14 year-old female
On Friday, 3-25-2016, at approximately 12:00 p.m., officers responded to Fitz Intermediate School, 4600 West McFadden Street for a critical missing minor.
School staff informed officers that at 12:00 p.m., the 14 year old student, Clarissa Jacqueline Serafin (a 14 year old Hispanic female) walked away from Fitz Intermediate School after leaving a note that indicated she might harm herself. Continue reading→
SAUSD’s Valerie Amezcua Joined NALEO Educational Fund and Latino Policymakers in Nation’s Capital for Policy Institute on School Governance
Two-day event equipped Amezcua and more than 40 other Latino officials with the skills and information needed to advance student success in their communities
(Santa Ana, CA) – Santa Ana Unified School District’s Board of Education Clerk Valerie Amezcua joined the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund, the nation’s preeminent Latino leadership organization, and more than 40 other Latino school board members and trustees from across the country for the group’s National Policy Institute on School Governance.
The two-day Institute, held from March 15-16, 2016 in Washington D.C., focused on providing Latino public servants with the enhanced capacity and governance skills needed to become effective advocates for their students, families and communities. During the event, Amezcua and other participants had the opportunity to engage with leading education experts from the public, private and non-profit sectors who tackled pressing education policy and governance topics. SAUSD Parent Conference to Provide Valuable Resources for Student Success
(March 16, 2016) – Parents of the Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) are invited to attend the 22nd Annual Parent Conference on Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Villa Fundamental Intermediate School, located at 1441 East Chestnut Avenue, Santa Ana, CA 92701. This year’s theme is SAUSD – Investing in the Future because students are our future leaders and citizens of tomorrow.
The event will feature a host of workshops and seminars, and community resources that are specifically designed to aid parents in supporting their student’s success. Santa Ana USD children to shave their heads to conquer childhood cancers!

Students and teachers will BRAVE the SHAVE and go BALD during their Fifth Annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation Fundraising event on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 8:30 a.m, at Carr Intermediate School, located at 2120 W. Edinger Ave., in Santa Ana.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation sponsors head-shaving events around the world by asking the simple question: How much money would you donate to conquer kids’ cancers to see me shave my head? Volunteer barbers donate their time and participants raise funds and then sit back and have their heads shaved in solidarity with kids who have been diagnosed with cancer. The money raised goes towards grants given to doctors and scientists who are dedicated to finding cures and treatments for infants, children, and young adults who have been diagnosed with cancer. SAUSD Superintendent Announces Retirement
The Santa Ana Unified School Board and Superintendent announced today the resignation and anticipated retirement of Dr. Rick Miller. Dr. Miller will be retiring from the Santa Ana Unified School District on July 1st of this year to spend time with his family. Dr. Miller has served in excess of 45 years in education including the last 27 years as a district superintendent. Dr. Miller thanked the Board and District for the tremendous opportunity to serve in Santa Ana and commends the staff for the great work they have continued to provide. Continue reading→

Sports Foundation to Distribute Brand New Running Shoes for Students in the Santa Ana Unified School District as part of the RunStrong program to promote a healthier lifestyle
(March 7, 2016) – When students didn’t have proper shoes to compete in 5k and 10k races, but they would still be just as eager to participate in whatever they could afford, the Kevin Armstrong MD Memorial Sports Foundation knew that they had to find a way to provide running shoes to all the students who participated in their program – RunStrong – a program that instills a love of running in intermediate-age students while promoting living a healthy lifestyle.
“We made a commitment to invest in their success as a runner and to inspire them to continue to run and make fitness a part of their overall healthier lifestyle. The students are excited, appreciative, and overjoyed that we make such an investment in them. Bill Medley from The Righteous Brothers to Perform at Benefit Concert at Santa Ana High School for Student Scholarships

(February 10, 2016) – Santa Ana Unified School District celebrates Noeli Zarate, a senior at Santa Ana High School, for earning a perfect score on the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam in May 2015. This distinction is so superior that it falls into a select category in which Noeli is 1 in 55 students in the world to earn every point possible during this testing period. Furthermore, out of approximately 4.5 million AP Exams taken by 2.5 million U.S. public high schools in 2015, she is 1 in 322 students to earn every point possible, a rare accomplishment. Mock Election and Voter Registration Scheduled for January 21, 2016
(Santa Ana, CA) January 12, 2016: The students and parents at César E. Chávez High School are getting involved in the political process. On Thursday, January 21, American government students will cast their ballots in a marked election for the 2016 California presidential primary election.
The parents, community members and all eligible students will also be able to move another step closer to Election Day by registering to vote for the 2016 general election in the Orange County Registrar’s office mobile unit. The news that union organizers with the Orange County Labor Federation are working to deliberately misinform parents about the truth regarding California’s Parent Trigger law should come as no surprise. Those who support the concept of school choice and the supposedly “radical” idea that every California child deserves the best education we can give them have been fighting entrenched union interests since Governor Schwarzenegger signed the Open Enrollment Act into law.
The Open Enrollment Act was a cornerstone of President Obama’s ambitious “Race to the Top” education reform effort that swept the nation nearly eight years ago. The President’s goals for reforming our public education system, which former Senator Gloria Romero and I supported, was the implementation of educational policies like performance-based evaluations for teachers and principals, support for charter schools and turning low-performance schools into education powerhouses. SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man was charged yesterday for sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl, who was waiting on a curb in line for Christmas presents at a school. Raul Marin Martin, 59, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of committing a lewd act upon a child under the age of 14, and allegations of having a prior conviction for a sex offense, committing a serious and violent felony while on probation, and committing a lewd act on a child by a stranger, which if found true, would render the defendant ineligible for probation. He also faces sentencing enhancements for a prior 2014 serious and violent strike conviction. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 21 years in state prison. Martin is scheduled for a continued arraignment on Jan. 8, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD arrests sexual offender for sexual assault of 8 year-old girl at holiday event
On 12/12/15, the Santa Ana Police Department arrested Raul Martin, 59, of Santa Ana, for sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl.
During the morning hours of 12/12/15, there was a gift / food give-a-way being held at Davis Elementary School, 1405 N. Spurgeon, Santa Ana. This give-a-way attracted a large crowd of families from the neighborhood. The parents of an 8-year-old girl and 10-year-old boy dropped their children off at Davis Elementary as they parked their vehicle. Continue reading→
