Victim of shooting on South Standard played football at Godinez High School
The victim of the shooting death in the 1400 block of South Standard on January 24, 2014 has been identified as Jeffrey “Jay Jay” Enriquez (18) of Santa Ana, a former football player at Godinez Fundamental High School. He leaves behind his mom, Maria, and seven brothers and sisters.
On 1-24-14, at approximately 1:10 AM, Santa Ana patrol officers responded to a report of a person who was observed lying on the ground in the 1400 block South Standard Street. Upon their arrival, officers found a male adult who was shot and in need of medical assistance. The Orange County Fire Authority and paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the subject, who was later identified as Enriquez, deceased, according to the SAPD. Continue reading

City and the SAUSD to host Madison Park Garden Ribbon Cutting on 1/21

SANTA ANA, CA (January 15, 2014) – The new joint-use community garden and basketball court renovation project has been completed and will be commemorated with a ribbon cutting event on Tuesday, January 21 at the new garden in Madison Park at 11:30 a.m. Madison students, neighborhood families, teachers, Santa Ana Unified School District leaders and City leaders will come together and celebrate the opening of this unique partnership. This is the first joint-use garden in the city, creating a unique venture that will provide fresh produce for the community and an experiential site for the school’s science and health curriculum. Suspects caught stealing copper piping from Carver Elementary School’s roof
Santa Ana School Police received a call of a person on the roof of Carver Elementary School at 5:20 AM Wednesday morning, January 15, 2014. When Officers arrived, they found one male adult suspect still on the roof of the school attempting to hide from the Officers. The suspect was detained without incident. Burglar caught stealing 24 i-Pads from Heninger Elementary School
On Friday, January 10, 2014, at approximately 7:35 PM hours, Santa Ana School Police Officers and a Santa Ana Police Department K-9 unit responded to Heninger Elementary School, located at 417 W. Walnut Street, in response to a silent burglary alarm activation. Officers arrived and detained a male Hispanic juvenile who had forced entry into the school library by breaking a window. Santa Ana Valley High School’s students and parents are wondering what in the world their Principal, Patrick D. Yrarrázaval-Correa, was thinking when he told their popular Football Coach, Larry Mohr, last month, to resign or be fired.
Valley was 48-28-1 during Mohr’s seven-year tenure. The Falcons were Orange League champions in 2013 for the second time in three years, going 5-0 in league and 7-3-1 overall. Valley is 13-2 in league games over the past three seasons, according to the Orange County Register. Continue reading

OCDA ADOPTS 149 CHILDREN FROM 42 FAMILIES IN 15TH ANNUAL ADOPT-A-FAMILY HOLIDAY CELEBRATION
SANTA ANA – Children from 42 families will celebrate the holidays this weekend at the Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) 15th Annual Adopt-A-Family event. The event will be held tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Monte Vista Elementary School in Santa Ana.
OCDA staff, affiliates, friends, and family have adopted 149 children from 42 families, who were identified as needing assistance during this holiday season by school principals from Diamond Elementary School, Monte Vista Elementary School, and staff from the Santa Ana Corbin Family Center. Each child will receive donated gifts and toys and their families will be provided with grocery gift certificates for a holiday dinner. Continue reading
