Santa Ana Planning Commissioner Eric Alderete has announced that he will campaign for Ward 3 on the Santa Ana City Council, which is currently held by Council Member Carlos Bustamante, who was arrested last week on a plethora of sex crime and public theft charges. California and Mexico not only share strong historical and economic ties, but also a very close and cherished friendship. In March, I was privileged to introduce a delegation of four distinguished members from the Mexican National Senate to the California State Senate. Led by the Honorable Silvano Auroles Conejo, Vice President of the Mexican Senate, the delegation included Senators Adriana González Carrillo, Claudia Sofía Corichi García and Amira Gómez Tueme.
That same week, I was proud to co-host the 25th Border Legislative Conference (BLC), which convened in Sacramento March 28-30. Now in its 10th year, the BLC is comprised of legislators from the ten states along the U.S.-Mexico border: California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon, and Tamaulipas. The tax assistance workshop will take place on Tuesday, April 3rd from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the CSUF Garden Grove Campus in Room 150, 12901 Euclid Street, Garden Grove, CA 92840.
“Filing taxes can be a confusing and time consuming process, leaving many people at a loss for what to do,” said Senator Correa. “So many of our families need assistance filing taxes in order to get a tax refund, which is money that returns directly to our communities and supports the local economy. SENATOR LOU CORREA ORGANIZES CASH FOR COLLEGE WORKSHOPS FOR COLLEGE-BOUND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

(SANTA ANA, CA) – State Senator Lou Correa is working with Cash for College, the California Student Aid Commission, and other local organizations to provide four different “Cash for College” workshops for high school seniors in Orange County in January and February. These workshops help high school seniors fill out financial aid applications for college, including the Cal Grant and FASFA forms.
The four workshops will be held on January 26th at Anaheim High School (811 W. Lincoln Ave., Anaheim), February 2nd at Santa Ana High School (520 W. Walnut St., Santa Ana), February 9th at Bolsa Grande High School (9401 Westminster Ave., Garden Grove), and February 16th at Garden Grove High School (11271 Stanford Ave., Garden Grove). I had lunch with a state legislator last week and he dropped a bombshell – apparently there are forces in the Democratic Party that are asking State Senator Lou Correa to consider taking back his old seat on the O.C. Board of Supervisors – and giving incumbent Supervisor Janet Nguyen the boot.
The last time I met with Correa, earlier this year, he said he was looking at the possibility of running for State Attorney General, but only if the incumbent were to run for U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein’s seat. Feinstein got cleaned out by Kinde Durkee so perhaps she might consider finally retiring. However if she runs again, where will that leave Correa? Continue reading

“California Governor Jerry Brown has vetoed SB 847, a bill by Senator Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana) that would have required medical cannabis cooperatives and collectives be located at least 600 feet from residential zones,” according to 420 Times.
The bill was SB 847, by state Sen. Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana), who said he wanted to allow cities to chose their own regulations and to protect children living near such facilities from second-hand smoke, according to the L.A. Times.
In vetoing Correa’s bill that would have unnecessarily restricted medical marijuana clinics, Brown wrote “Decisions of this kind are best made in cities and counties, not the state Capitol,” according to columnist Steven Greenhut, in the North County Times. Continue reading
