Advisory: SPECIAL TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT AND CRASH PREVENTION SANTA ANA POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES GRANT FOR

The Santa Ana Police Department has been awarded a $343,480.00 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for a year-long program of special enforcement and public awareness efforts to prevent traffic-related deaths and injuries. The Santa Ana Police Department will use the funding as part of the City’s ongoing commitment to keep our roadways safe and improve the quality of life through both enforcement and education.

“The Santa Ana Police Department is committed to traffic safety and doing everything within our power to ensure the roadways are safe for drivers and pedestrians. In fact, traffic safety is a major component of the City’s Strategic Plan and substantial efforts have been made in this area as we engage internal and external stakeholders on this issue. Working in partnership with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), this grant will allow the Santa Ana Police Department to dedicate the necessary resources to target violations that contribute to dangerous driving conditions through education and enforcement, which will help meet our strategic goals to enhance the lives of our residents as well as visitors to Santa Ana.” — Chief Carlos Rojas. It’s OC Fair time, and this year, it’s One Big Party! The OC Fair will be in town from July 17th – August 16th, and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We all know that along with the fair comes a large increase in traffic volume on streets adjacent to the fairgrounds. This year, the OC Fair has several promotions that will certainly have an impact on attendance and traffic.

Accident between a big rig and a bicyclist causing heavy traffic at 2200 W. 1st St.

The Santa Ana Police Department is reporting on their Facebook page that there has been a collision between a big rig and a bicyclist at the 2200 block of West 1st Street, which is near the intersection with Center Street.

Advisory: SOMOS EVENT ADVSORY – TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT

On Sunday, October 5th, between 6 AM and 5 PM, the Santa Ana Police Department’s Traffic Section will be working the City sponsored SOMOS event. This event includes a complete closure of Main St. between 3rd Street and Warner for the entire day.

The streets for this event will be posted “No parking” starting at 6 AM until 5 PM to help facilitate the event. Violations in the designated “No Parking” areas will be enforced and vehicles are subject to being towed. Continue reading→

I-5 Central County Upgrade Plans Ready for Review

Public is invited to read and comment on the Measure M project’s environmental study by Sept. 12

ORANGE – Residents and commuters are invited to an open house to learn about the planned improvement project on the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) through central county and to provide comments on the project’s environmental documents that were recently released.

The Orange County Transportation Authority, in cooperation with Caltrans, is proposing to relieve traffic congestion, eliminate bottlenecks and improve traffic operations on I-5 between the Costa Mesa Freeway (SR-55) and the Orange Freeway (SR-57) through the cities of Santa Ana, Orange and Tustin. SoCalGas pipeline work in Santa Ana will affect traffic on North Grand Ave.

SoCalGas will be doing some work in the City of Santa Ana, as part of their Pipeline Safety Enhancement Plan. They will be testing a segment of pipe. The work began in late July. The work will take place at several locations along North Grand Ave. beginning at the intersection of East Chestnut Ave. and ending at the intersection of East 2nd St. The work is expected to take three to four weeks.

Southbound traffic on North Grand Avenue will be reduced to left hand lanes during this work. This change will be marked with traffic cones and signs. Nearby residents may hear some work-related noise. Crews will be working 20 hour days Monday through Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. A letter was sent to notify neighbors about the project for your reference. Continue reading→

The World Cup celebration got out of hand on Bristol last night

Santa Ana residents apparently got pretty riled up over Mexico’s World Cup victory against the Croatians. According to the Santa Ana CopWatch Facebook page at least 30 Santa Ana Police Department cars showed up at Bristol and McFadden and started closing up streets in reaction to the spontaneous victory celebration.

The fan reaction reportedly included marching up and down Bristol Street and cruising. The latter, in particular, is frowned upon by the SAPD. Continue reading→
