Looking for volunteer hours, community service, or just the opportunity to give back to your community? The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana have teamed up with KaBOOM! and Disney to build a brand-new playground for our Club.

In order to make this possible, we need help from the community! We are currently looking for volunteers to participate in our Build Day on Monday, September 10th. The Build Day will start at 8 a.m. and will conclude with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. Please come join us in celebrating!

Back to Natives RECEIVES $1,000 GRANT FROM DISNEY FOR VOLUNTEER HABITAT RESTORATION PROGRAM

IRVINE, Calif., May 23, 2012 – Back to Natives Restoration, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit public charity has received a $1,000 grant from Disney to support its Volunteer Habitat Restoration Program.

Back to Natives is collaborating with the City of Santa Ana at the Santiago Park Nature Reserve, where student volunteers remove invasive plants and plant native plants. Volunteers learn about the importance of biodiversity and habitat restoration as they perform meaningful community service to improve the Reserve for both wildlife and humans. More than 100 volunteers will gather tomorrow to plant 160 trees in honor of Earth Day and to mark Wells Fargo’s 160th anniversary

Santa Ana, Calif. (April 20, 2012) – Back to Natives Restoration today announced a $10,000 donation from Wells Fargo in support of the nonprofit’s efforts to preserve and restore Orange County and California’s wild lands through local education and restoration projects. The grant will be celebrated with the planting of 160 trees at Santiago Park in Santa Ana, Calif., in honor Earth Day and Wells Fargo’s milestone anniversary of 160 years of helping customers succeed financially and communities thrive. City of Santa Ana to host a community graffiti clean-up day on Saturday

Community: City of Santa Ana Scheduled to Host a Community Graffiti Clean-up Day

SANTA ANA, CA (January 11, 2012) – In promoting the City’s graffiti abatement efforts, Santa Ana Public Works in collaboration with residents, community volunteers/ organizations, and city contracted graffiti removal crews will host a Community Graffiti Clean-up Day, this Saturday, Jan. 28.

Frazee Paint / The Comex Group will provide “Take-Away” materials and supplies for the graffiti abatement efforts. The City contractor, Graffiti Protective Coatings, will provide five additional trucks at no additional cost to accomplish removal of graffiti from utility poles citywide. 7-Eleven is donating coffee and donuts along with water to keep the volunteers hydrated. The graffiti clean-up day will begin at the Memorial Park stage area and will proceed throughout the various surrounding neighborhoods. Continue reading→

Volunteer opportunities in Orange County, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

“On Monday we honor the life and work of a great man, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.,” said U.S. Rep. Sanchez in a press release issued yesterday. “Most importantly we reflect on the ideals of equality and justice which Dr. King championed. Dr. King believed that all people are created equal and he challenged our nation to ensure justice under law for everyone, regardless of the color of their skin. He asked Americans to bridge barriers and work together to help each other succeed.

“Let us honor Dr. King by working to strengthen our communities. Dr. King was a significant champion for volunteering and giving back to our communities, therefore I urge you to join me in honoring his legacy by helping your neighbors and those less fortunate. Through our actions, the work of Dr. King lives on.”

Now in its 13th year, community members can make their “day off” a “day on” with a Day of Service. Celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through meaningful service. This year OneOC  will partner with local agencies to offer volunteer opportunities that address critical community issues. There is no better time to get involved and make a difference!

They are in a huge bind and have to vacate the warehouse they are in and need from 35,000sf to 50.000 sq. ft. from now till the end of January when they get the toys out to the kids of Orange County. It sounds like a huge request I know; is there any way we can do that? Please let me know if we can help or are we dreaming?

Church of the Foothills Welcomes a Guest Speaker from The OC Food Bank on Poverty in Orange County

Santa Ana, California (September 5, 2010) – The Church of the Foothills is very pleased to welcome a guest speaker from the Orange County Food Bank as part of their ongoing Peace & Justice Speakers Series. On Sunday September 19th at 11AM, the OC Food Bank will be sharing an update on poverty in Orange County and their efforts to help those in need.

The Orange County Food Bank distributes 15 million pounds of food annually. In addition to the 23,000 people that the Food Bank serves directly each month, it provides food and personal care items to over 300 non-profit service organizations, such as social service agencies, churches, shelters, soup kitchens and senior centers. These organizations serve the homeless, disabled persons, seniors on fixed incomes, the unemployed and the working poor.

Future Speakers in the Peace & Justice Series include such groups as OC Shanti on “Living with HIV/AIDS in the Year 2010” on Sunday September 26th, Habitat for Humanity on Sunday October 3rd, and Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) on Sunday October 24th.

Correa launching a Summer Service Corps for high school and college students

State Senator Lou Correa is sponsoring a Summer Service Corps as a public service opportunity for high school and college students to participate in service activities while learning about public policy and the legislative process.

This program offers students exposure to diverse cultures and traditions, networking opportunities, and legislative seminars focused on important California issues from saving our planet and healthy living to addressing poverty and workforce development.

Qualifications: The Program will run from July – September 2010. To apply, the student must be in high school or college and live in the 34th Senate District. Transportation is required, and students must have an interest in public service.
