SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to 40 years to life in state prison for forcibly raping two women after being linked to the cold-case sexual assaults through DNA. Kevin Lawrence Saint John, 45, Hemet, was found guilty by a jury Aug. 20, 2014, of two felony counts of forcible rape with sentencing enhancement allegations for committing a sexual assault against multiple victims and committing a sexual assault during the commission of a kidnapping.
At approximately 3:00 a.m. on Aug. 10, 2004, Saint John entered a 7-Eleven convenience store in Westminster wearing a baseball cap pulled down over his face. He approached 21-year-old Jane Doe #1 in the back area of the store, where she was working. The defendant forced the victim into the freezer area away from the view of any customers and forcibly raped her. He then carried empty boxes out and covered his face from surveillance cameras as he left the store. Continue reading→

New Academy Space Designed to Further Local Dropout Prevention and Recovery Efforts
WESTMINSTER, CA – A successful dropout prevention and recovery program, operating since 2003 as a partnership between Simon Youth Foundation (SYF), Westminster Mall and Huntington Beach Union School District, is expanding its capacity to serve local students through a larger academy space at Westminster Mall and an affiliated second site, Simon Youth Coast High School Academy.
Simon Youth Academy at Westminster Mall will be one of 22 Simon Youth Academies nationwide that exist to help at-risk students stay in school. To-date, SYF has graduated more than 12,000 students, awarded more than $12 million in scholarships and maintained a 90% cumulative graduation rate across all Academies. In Westminster, CA, the existing Academy has served more than 600 students. To-date, SYF and Westminster Mall have awarded $98,000 to local college-bound high school students. Continue reading→

GANG ASSOCIATE CONVICTED OF MURDERING WOMAN BY DRAGGING HER WITH CAR

SANTA ANA – A female associate of an Asian criminal street gang was convicted yesterday of murdering a woman by dragging her several blocks on the outside of her car. Lynn Ai Quach, 24, Garden Grove, was found guilty by a jury yesterday Sept. 4, 2014, of one felony count of special circumstances murder during the commission of a robbery with sentencing enhancements for criminal street gang activity and vicarious discharge of a firearm by a gang member. She faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole at her sentencing Oct. 24, 2014, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-41, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
Co-defendant and Asian criminal street gang member, Christopher Dai-Ichi Yu, 22, Fountain Valley, was found guilty by a jury June 8, 2011, of one felony count each of murder, attempted murder, and street terrorism with sentencing enhancements for criminal street gang activity, personal discharge of a firearm, and vicarious discharge of a firearm by a gang member. If convicted, he faces a minimum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole. Santa Ana resident kills a 12-year old girl in a high speed chase

Westminster patrol officers attempted to stop a wanted suspect who was driving in the area of Sigler Park, just after 6 pm on Friday, April 3, 2014. The suspect was wanted for weapons violations and narcotics trafficking. When officers attempted to make contact in the area of Olive St. and Plaza St., the suspect intentionally crashed into a marked patrol vehicle and fled. Officers pursued the suspect vehicle.
Officers chased the suspect vehicle north on Olive St. through Westminster Blvd. The vehicle continued to Trask Ave. where the suspect attempted to make a left turn. As he did, he broadsided a minivan. The suspect lost control of his vehicle and collided with a fourth vehicle, which caused the suspect vehicle to overturn. When the vehicle came to rest, the suspect fled on foot from the scene. Continue reading→
