Bill Medley from The Righteous Brothers to Perform at Benefit Concert at Santa Ana High School for Student Scholarships
(February 2, 2016) – Enjoy the wonderful sounds of Santa Ana High School’s Own Bill Medley, best known as half of the unmistakable duo, The Righteous Brothers as Medley performs to raise money for Dollars for Scholars, a scholarship program to benefit music students at Santa Ana High School. “If it were not for the Santa Ana Unified School District and the encouragement that Bill received while attending Santa Ana High School, he would not be where he is today,” said Bobbie Rooker, sister of Medley.
Medley’s musical legacy continues to live as such notable popular hits “You’ve Lost that Love Feelin” and “Time of My Life” are still America’s all-time favorites. In fact, “Time of My Life” for the film Dirty Dancing earned an Oscar, a Golden Globe, Video of the Year, and a Grammy. Continue reading

This event will be held Saturday, January 23, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. in downtown Santa Ana on 4th Street near French and Bush. There will be entertainment, giveaways, food, and information related to Santa Ana Unified School District schools. Choose the best…chose SAUSD.

The 10th Annual Jamboree — Get Cubed or Be Square
SANTA ANA, CA (January 14, 2016) – Parenting OC magazine has partnered with Discovery Cube in Santa Ana to present the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Kids’ Summer Opportunities Jamboree event, to take place on March 5, 2016 at the iconic Orange County family destination. Discovery Cube, which expanded this past summer, doubling in size, and adding among other attractions, the 10,000 square-foot Julianne Argyros Showcase Theater, is the leading hands-on science center for families in Southern California. On the day of the Jamboree event, which is free to attend, the Center is also offering free childrens’ passes for admittance to the Cube.
“We wanted to do something big and exciting for our 10th annual Jamboree,” said Parenting OC Media President Randall Tierney, regarding the choice to hold the event at the Cube. “It doesn’t get any bigger than this.” Continue reading
I get a little tired about the constant bashing of Santa Ana. Yes the ongoing gang war sucks but there is still a lot to love about our city, such as:
$3 movies at the MainPlace Mall
When a new movie comes out my kids and I will quickly label it as either a “must-see” or a “$3 movie.” Most films are in the latter category (and a lot of them end up on our Redbox and Netflix list). While I would love it if there was a first run movie theater in Santa Ana I really like being able to go to the Picture Show at the MainPlace Mall to see movies that have been out for a few weeks, if not months, for only $3 (and only $2 on Tuesdays).

I really dislike South Coast Plaza. Who can afford what the stores there have to offer? But the MainPlace Mall is just the ticket with a decent array of stores and anchors and a great food selection that now includes wood-fired pizza at Blaze Pizza and bbq ribs at the new Lucille’s. There is ample parking and two frozen yogurt places – plus my eye doctor. The previous owners of the MainPlace Mall, Westfield, just sold the shopping center to a group of developers. SANTA ANA, CA – January 5, 2015 – Share Our Selves (SOS), a respected community health center and social services organization with a forty-five year history of serving the needs of the community, is pleased to announce the opening of the SOS Health Center at Samueli Academy in Santa Ana on Monday, January 4, 2016. Share Our Selves provides comprehensive care throughout Orange County, with centers conveniently located in Costa Mesa, Santa Ana, Lake Forest, and Newport Beach. Samueli Academy is an educational program of Orangewood Foundation that provides a transformational learning environment to educationally underserved communities. Samueli Academy offers consistency, stability, support, and a community in which to belong, thrive, and grow into successful, independent adults.
The beautiful new health center, located on the Samueli Academy campus at 1901 N. Fairview Street in Santa Ana, is staffed with bilingual providers, and is open to the students and families of Samueli Academy. Services offered include primary medical care for adults and children, sports physicals, and a direct link to the services available at the other SOS health centers, including pediatric and adult dental care, food and financial assistance, eligibility enrollment for insurance, and much more. HUNDREDS OF CHILDREN RING IN THE NEW YEAR DRESSED AS THEIR FAVORITE SUPERHEROES AT DISCOVERY CUBE’S NOON YEAR’S EVE PARTY
Families are invited to ring in 2016 while the sun is still up at Discovery Cube’s “Noon Year’s Eve” party with a giant balloon drop, countdown, green screen photo booth, hats, horns and ginger ale toasts. Children are invited to dress up as their favorite superheroes as they enjoy a Superhero Dance Party and countdown to noon. Participants can also take part in learning stations themed around celebrating the coming New Year.
Learning stations include:
• Alka Seltzer Rocket – Witness a chemical reaction and watch gas expand, causing a canister to pop and fly in the air!
• Tambourines – Create a tambourine out of paper plates and beans, while learning about sound.

Community Alert: Third Annual Plaza Navideña / Tercera Celebración Anual de Plaza Navideña
The City of Santa Ana is excited to announce its Third Annual Plaza Navideña celebration on Saturday, December 12th at Plaza Calle Cuatro on the corner of Fourth and French Streets. The festivities will take place from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The event will include a visit from Santa Claus and candy filled piñatas for the children. There will be festive live entertainment including mariachi music, ballet folklorico, tamale contest, and the adorned 30 foot holiday tree for all to enjoy. Continue reading

The Santa Ana Public Library will hold an exclusive sneak preview of FOX’s upcoming animated series, BORDERTOWN. A holiday toy drive in the barrio will be hosted by Unidos Para Ti and the OC Lowrider Alliance at Jerome Park on Sunday, Dec. 20, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event will include a free concert and a toy giveaway as well as a car show. If you are interested in entering your car there is a fee of $15 plus one unwrapped toy. You may enter a bike for $10 plus an unwrapped toy. Continue reading

AT-RISK YOUTH EARN 850 TURKEY DINNERS IN OCDA’S 6TH ANNUAL THANKSGIVING GANG PREVENTION INCENTIVE
SANTA ANA, Calif. – Turkey dinners will be awarded today to 850 at-risk students who succeeded in Orange County Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership’s (OC GRIP) 6th annual Thanksgiving challenge to improve their attendance, behavior, and grades in time for Thanksgiving.
Ralphs/Food 4 Less and Saddleback Church donated over 850 turkey dinners this year compared to 400 in years past, as part of the ongoing OC GRIP gang prevention effort to keep kids in school and out of gangs. The total donation is valued at over $25,000. OC GRIP extended the incentive to students at 51 schools this year. Continue reading

The Hope Alive Perfect Harmony Concert is set for November 15, 2015, at 6 pm, at the Bill Medley Auditorium, located at Santa Ana High School, at 520 W. Walnut St., in Santa Ana.
This event supports keeping music in the schools by raising funds for music education in Santa Ana. This benefit concert brings the diversity of our community together for an evening of music exploration around the globe as world-class musicians are paired with aspiring youth artists from diverse backgrounds.
Music students from Willard Intermediate, Santa High School, and the surrounding community will have the rare opportunity to perform on stage in a symphony led and directed by local conductors Ammy Beltran, Reggie Goodjoin, Lesa Terry, Joseph Kaye and Victor De Los Santos. This eclectic mix of conductors and music instructors with varying styles and backgrounds expose the youth artists to a variety of musical genres and cultures that they do not learn in their regular school music programs.
