Community Alert: Children’s Day/Book Day Celebration at the Santa Ana Public Library – April 25th

On April 25, 2015 the Santa Ana Public Library will join hundreds of libraries across the country in celebration of Día de los niños/Día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day). The celebration will showcase a variety of fun-filled activities and services for children and their families. This free community event will take place at the Main Library on Saturday, April 25, 2015 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The annual Día de los niños/Día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day), known as Día, celebrates children, families, and literacy. Día emphasizes the importance of advocating literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Continue reading→

Free Food and Resources at el “Día del Niño” Celebration in Santa Ana

Orange County, CA (April, 2015) – Healthy kids make for a healthy community. For the past 20 years KidWorks Santa Ana has known this axiom to be true. Day in, day out, it is the mission of KidWorks to provide all of the tools necessary for at-risk children to grow up and prosper and find their own unique identity.

On Saturday April 11th, from 10 am until 1 pm, between the 1900 and 2200 blocks of Myrtle Street, KidWorks will host a Día del Niño celebration, in partnership with other local non-profits, community leaders and educators. TWELFTH ANNUAL SPRING YOUTH SOCCER CAMP CONTINUES TO BUILD SELF-ESTEEM AND ENCOURAGE POSITIVE CHOICES IN YOUNG STUDENTS

SANTA ANA – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) is hosting the 12th annual Spring Youth Soccer Camp (SYSC) this week for selected elementary school students from Russell Elementary School in Santa Ana. SYSC is an ongoing community gang prevention effort organized through the Orange County Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership (OC GRIP) that encourages youth to avoid the eminent dangers of gang life and get involved in healthy team-building extra-curricular programs. The 3-day spring break soccer clinic kicked off this morning at 8:00 a.m. and will conclude on Wednesday, April 8, 2015.

The program is being held at Russell Elementary School at 600 South Jackson Street, Santa Ana. Members of the media are invited to attend all portions of the event. Continue reading→

SAUSD Parent Conference to Provide Valuable Resources for Student Success

SANTA ANA CA- March 3, 2015 – Parents of the Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) are invited to attend the 21st Annual Parent Conference on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at Villa Fundamental Intermediate School, located at 1441 East Chestnut Avenue, Santa Ana, CA 92701. “Our theme this year is “Together, Supporting SAUSD Students.” This theme is fitting because we know that it takes parents and guardians in partnership with teachers, school staff, and district administration to ensure that students are receiving the best educational experience possible,” said Superintendent Rick Miller, Ph.D.

The event will feature a host of workshops and seminars, and community resources that are specifically designed to aid parents in supporting their student’s success. Jumpstart at UCI Annual Spring Literacy Event to Bring Books to Life to Encourage Early Childhood Reading Habits

WHAT: More than 450 families from across Orange County are expected to attend Jumpstart’s free annual Spring Literacy event on Saturday, March 7, 10 a.m. at the Heritage Museum in Santa Ana. The exciting event brings books to life with story-themed booths such as the Giving Tree, readings from children’s authors, activities such as a Cat in the Hat sack race, science experiments and more to encourage an interest in reading among preschool age children. Jumpstart will give more than 1,000 free books to children who attend the event. The Bowers Museum invites you to a Free Celtic Family Festival on Sunday, March 1 from 11am to 4pm. The Annual Orange County Tet Parade for 2015 is set for Sat., Feb. 21, from 9 am to 12 p.m. (pre-parade starts at 8 am) on Bolsa Ave., main stage at Magnolia St.

The Little Saigon Tet Parade is Organized by the Vietnamese American Federation of Southern California. The purpose is to Celebrate the Lunar New Year and to preserve and Promote Vietnamese culture to the younger generations and to the greater community.

The Parade Festival is supported by the National Vietnam Southern California organized with support from many organizations and international children in the community. SAUSD’s 2nd Annual Healthier U 5K Resolution Run/Walk

Draws 250 Participants on Beautiful Sunny Morning

On the beautiful Saturday morning of January 31, 2015, Santa Ana Unified School District employees joined their friends and family at the district’s 2nd Annual Healthier U 5K Resolution Run/Walk held at Godinez Fundamental High School and Centennial Park.

With a start time of 8:30 a.m., participants were geared up and ready to go to demonstrate the importance of physical activity for a healthy lifestyle. It didn’t matter if you were a trained runner or casual walker, participants were cheered and motivated along the way to go at their own pace and most importantly, finish the race. Continue reading→
