OCHSA Students Lend a Hand in Writing

Students from Orange County High School of the Arts (OCHSA) in Santa Ana recently began a ten week long “Creative Minds Writing Workshop” at the Santa Ana Public Library. In classes designed to teach 3rd to 6th grade children valuable writing skills, elementary students will learn about different aspects of writing, such as character development, devices for setting and plot , and how to write essays, stories, and poems. The workshop also covers the basics of different literary genres such as horror, fantasy, mystery, and comedy. Continue reading→

See the Metrolink Holiday Express at Santa Ana’s Train Depot today at 6pm

Santa’s glittering train, the Metrolink Holiday Toy Express, is once again preparing to travel from city to city to entertain families and help to collect toys for the less fortunate. This year’s 32-city tour, which passes through six counties (San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura, Orange County, Los Angeles and San Diego counties) brings a brightly packaged gift – a 450-ton train decorated with holiday displays, a musical performance and 50,000 twinkling lights – and of course, Santa!

Families who come to the station to enjoy this special holiday treat are encouraged to bring new unwrapped toys.  The Holiday Toy Express is stopping in Santa Ana today, at 6 pm, at the Santa Ana Train Station. Continue reading→

AT-RISK YOUTH EARN 450 TURKEY DINNERS IN THANKSGIVING GANG PREVENTION INCENTIVE

ORANGE COUNTY – Turkey dinners will be awarded to approximately 450 at-risk students who succeeded in a Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership (GRIP) challenge to improve their attendance, behavior, and grades in time for Thanksgiving. The turkey dinners were donated through Albertsons’ Giving Thanks Program and Saddleback Church as part of the ongoing GRIP gang prevention effort to keep kids in school and out of gangs. Organizacion Haz la Diferencia is hosting a Masquerade Carnival fundraiser on Nov. 11, from 8 pm to 12 midnight, at Spoons Restaurant, located at 2601 Hotel Terrace Drive, in Santa Ana.  Tickets are $35.  100% of the proceeds go to helping underprivileged children in Ensenada!

3-year old struck and killed by possible drunk driver, in Santa Ana

Tragedy struck tonight, at approximately 6:22 pm, when a 3-year old was struck by a car, in Santa Ana.  He died later in a local hospital.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) a family was crossing 5th Street at Bewely and was reportedly holding the hand of their 3 year-old. A passing vehicle struck the 3 year-old and fled the scene.

Witnesses were able to provide a vehicle description and license plate. Santa Ana police officers located the suspect vehicle and suspect at 1300 N. Clinton. The suspect was taken into custody and it appears DUI is possibly a factor. Continue reading→

Help the Santa Ana High School Chamber Singers get to Carnegie Hall by supporting their video in the “GLEE! Give a Note” campaign for a chance to win up to $50,000. The video is titled “Help Us Shoot for the Moon, and Land Among the Stars.” Seventy-three schools from across the country have the chance to receive grants ranging from $10,000 to $50,000. There are nearly 400 schools attempting to win one of the 73 spots, Santa Ana High School being the only school in SAUSD among them.

REP. SANCHEZ APPLAUDS PRESIDENT’S STUDENT LOAN RELIEF

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez (CA-47) released the following statement today in response to the President’s announcement on his new student loan debt payments program. President Obama will issue an executive order to reduce the maximum percentage of income that students will pay toward their student loans to 10 percent. Santa Ana partially occupied – the SAPD won’t allow camping overnight

“​Just under 200 feisty protesters with Occupy Orange County marched Santa Ana streets this afternoon, chanted anti-corporate slogans and won supportive horn honks from hundreds of passing motorists,” according to the O.C. Weekly.
