“FIFTY MONKEY FERRIS WHEEL” OPENS AT THE SANTA ANA ZOO on Saturday May 26!

The 64-Foot Ferris Wheel at the Santa Ana Zoo will Soar Up in the Air Carrying a Projected 65,000 Riders Every Year!

Cathi Decker, Executive Director of Friends of Santa Ana Zoo (FOSAZ), announced the Grand Opening of the “Fifty Monkey” Ferris Wheel at the Zoo on Saturday, May 26. It is the first Zoo in the United States to put in a permanent thatched-roof style wheel. Nestled between the Zoofari Express Train and the Conservational Carrousel, the Fifty Monkey Ferris Wheel is the perfect addition for this local Zoo, providing a total of three child-friendly attractions to be shared and enjoyed by all ages. The ribbon cutting will be at 11 AM.

Free vision screening for children in Santa Ana set for April 26

MOMS ORANGE COUNTY PARTNERS WITH UC IRVINE’S GAVIN HERBERT EYE INSTITUTE TO OFFER FREE VISION SCREENINGS FOR CHILDREN ON APRIL 26

SANTA ANA, Calif. (April 20, 2018) – MOMS Orange County, a Santa Ana-based nonprofit dedicated to helping families have healthy babies, is partnering with UC Irvine’s Gavin Herbert Eye Institute on April 26 to offer free vision screenings to children ages 6 months – 12 years old. Screenings will be offered at 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at the MOMS Orange County offices at 1128 West Santa Ana Boulevard in Santa Ana.

Children who do not pass the vision screening may receive a free follow up comprehensive eye exam and glasses from the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute at no cost. Continue reading→

We are pleased to announce the Grand Unveiling of the Santa Ana Zoo’s new twenty-year Master Plan to the General Public. A reception will be held on Saturday, April 21 from 2-3 PM in the Crean Family Farm Barn Classroom.

CLR Design Group, the design team behind the Master Plan, will be on hand to detail the exciting plans for the Zoo’s future with concept drawings and colorful photos of how the Zoo will transform in the next twenty years. SANTA ANA, CA – On April 21, 2018, Santa Ana Public Library, winner of the 2016 National Medal for Museum and Library Services, will celebrate the 10th Annual Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros (Children’s Day/Book Day). The celebration, also known as Día, will take place at the Main Library from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event will showcase a variety of fun-filled activities and services for children and their families.

Children’s Day was designated as a day to bring attention to the importance and well-being of children. In 1996, nationally acclaimed children’s book author Pat Mora proposed linking the celebration of childhood and children with literacy, thus the creation of Día. Protest over the closure of the Northeast Santa Ana Little League’s fields set for this evening

The parents at Northeast Santa Ana Little League (NESALL) will be conducting a protest today over the forced closure of their baseball fields by the SAUSD on Wednesday, March 21.

As we reported yesterday the SAUSD sent armed school police officers to stop the Little League games and ordered everyone, including about 60 baseball players, parents, friends and volunteers of the NESALL premises.  Continue reading→
