Get paid while you learn a trade at Santa Ana’s Taller San Jose Hope Builders program

Santa Ana’s Taller San Jose Hope Builders has training spots open now! They pay youth $1,600 ($100 per week) to train in either Business Applications, Construction, Healthcare or Information Technology.

In addition to 16 weeks of hard skills training, Hope Builders provides:

  • 28 months of life skills and mentoring
  • Help to resolve criminal or legal issues
  • Childcare and transportation assistance, if eligible
  • On-going job coaching & placement assistance
  • Links to ongoing education and training
  • Various life skills and career building workshops

The SAUSD never built the pools they promised at Godinez and Century High Schools

At the last meeting, SAUSD Board President John Palacio publicly admitted that the SAUSD never built pools at Century High School and at Godinez High School, despite promises to do so. Unfortunately, the SAUSD is not good at properly managing Bond Measure money to build new facilities so some schools go without while other schools get new sports amenities. For example, Segerstrom High School is currently inexplicably replacing their existing score board in the gym with a brand new $70K video score board!

Century High School’s Swim and Water Polo Teams were traveling to Santa Ana High School to use their pool, but eventually both of these teams disbanded. The Coach and Athletes at Godinez High School have to use the pool at Valley High School but they do not have access to the pool until after 5 pm. The students sometimes do not get home from practice until after 9 pm which is not good for them! Continue reading→

OC RESCUE MISSION CALLS FOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT TO HELP SEND HOMELESS CHILDREN TO SUMMER CAMP

Orange County, Calif. – The Orange County Rescue Mission is in critical need of the community’s help to provide funding for its fifth annual “Summer to Remember” program, a nine-week summer camp for children living at the Village of Hope, a transitional living facility for homeless individuals and families.
Starting at just $15 per day per child, community members can choose to sponsor one day, one week, or even the entire summer for a homeless child.

The program, which begins on June 19 and is designed for children ages 5 to 12, provides kids with STEM-based learning activities, as well as a curriculum that focuses on building solid foundations in science, technology, engineering and math. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA, CA – Visit the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park this summer for some “wild” times with family and friends! The Zoo is an urban oasis, providing a cool and relaxing getaway right in the heart of Orange County. Many events and activities are planned for this summer with some exciting developments in the works.

This year’s theme is “Reading by Design,” a creative way to use the spirit of reading to show that literacy is the foundation for all, be it architecture, fashion, or art! Youth can ride June 1 through Aug. 31 for $20 per month, 50 percent off the regular fare

ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority is encouraging youth to explore their community this summer by getting out and visiting Orange County’s many attractions using the discounted OCTA Youth Summer Pass.

For the past 16 years, OCTA has provided a summer bus pass for those 18 and younger as part of a youth ridership program. The pass gives youth the freedom to travel and have fun with their friends. Continue reading→

New child care center now open in DTSA

You can find all sorts of bars and restaurants in Downtown Santa Ana but what about child care centers? Well now you can find that too as the Guarded Hearts Child Care Center has opened in DTSA. They are located right next door to MAZ Cafe Con Leche in the Triada development, at 612 North Lacy St., in Santa Ana.

Community: 22nd Annual Summer Youth Job Fair Next Saturday, April 29th / 22ª Feria Anual de Empleo Juvenil de Verano

SANTA ANA – The State of California Employment Development Department (EDD), in collaboration with the City of Santa Ana and the Orange County Employer Advisory Council, will be hosting the 22nd annual Summer Youth Job Fair. Youth job seekers between the ages of 15 to 25 can connect with employers at the Job Fair on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 9:00am to 12:30pm at the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center (SARTC).

Job seekers are encouraged to dress in business attire, bring copies of their résumé, and have the necessary information to complete job applications, including valid picture identification and social security card. Community: Graffiti Paint Out and Beautification Day with Children’s Day/Book Day this Saturday / Día de Eliminación de Grafiti y Embellecimiento

SANTA ANA, CA – Join the City of Santa Ana, Public Works Agency for their Community Graffiti Paint-Out and Beautification Day in conjunction with the Children’s Day / Book Day Celebration event this Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Santa Ana Public Library. This is a combined effort by City-contracted graffiti removal crews and volunteers from the community. Please come to the Children’s Day / Book Day event and check in at the Public Works Booth between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. We’ll provide the tools, gloves, paint and training. All you need to do is join us to help beautify our community.

Community: Santa Ana Public Library Presents the 9th Annual Children’s Day/Book Day | 9ª Día de los Niños / Día de los Libros

SANTA ANA, CA – On April 22, 2017, the Santa Ana Public Library, winner of the 2016 National Medal for Museum and Library Services, will celebrate Día de los niños/Día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day). The celebration, also known as Día, will take place at the Main Library from 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will showcase a variety of fun-filled activities and services for children and their families.

Children’s Day began in 1925 and was designated as a day to bring attention to the importance and well-being of children. In 1996, nationally acclaimed children’s book author Pat Mora proposed linking the celebration of childhood and children with literacy, thus the creation of Día.
