County of Orange Reports First Influenza-Related Death of Season

(Santa Ana, CA) – The County of Orange Health Care Agency has confirmed the County’s first influenza-related death this season. A previously-healthy male toddler died of complications related to influenza infection this week. Public Health Laboratory testing confirmed that he was infected with influenza A virus.

“This is an important reminder that influenza can cause serious illness, particularly in the very young,” County Health Officer Dr. Eric Handler said. “Everyone over six months of age should be vaccinated each year.” Continue reading→

The SAPD arrested 7 people who re-entered a closed down illegal pot dispensary

News in Santa Ana can get so ridiculous at times that it is unbelievable. For example the SAPD arrested seven people and seized about 40 pounds of marijuana on Tuesday night, Nov. 7, from an unlicensed medical marijuana dispensary actually named the LOL dispensary. Those arrested are no longer in an LOL mood!

Navid Nourifard, 32, of Encino, the owner of LOL, was arrested along with Kaile Near, 23, of Lake Forest; Amanda Elizabeth Willis, 22, of Irvine; Jessica Caitlynn Rivera, 25, of La Puente; Dayton Lee, 30, of Walnut; Kai Forrest Olson, 22, of Costa Mesa; and Dylan Robert Peck, 31, of Huntington Beach, according to the O.C. A 19-year old Santa Ana man was injured in a car to car shooting this evening

While most of us were driving home tonight Santa Ana gangbangers were shooting each other up, in a car-to-car shooting that happened Friday evening, Nov. 3, at around 5:45 p.m., according to the O.C. Register.

Santa Ana man arrested for a fatal shooting at a Westminster restaurant on Saturday night

On Thursday, Minh Quang Tran, 40, of Santa Ana was charged with murder and assault with a firearm after he allegedly shot up the Club Bleu Restaurant & Dancing venue in Westminster on Saturday, Oct. 28, leaving one person dead and another injured, according to the O.C. Register.

SANTA ANA, Calif. — Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) Tony Rackauckas, in a joint prosecution with Contra Costa District Attorney (CCDA) Diana Becton, has obtained nationwide restitution and a $1.3 million consumer protection settlement against 24 Hour Fitness, Inc., (24 Hour) resolving allegations of misleading and unfair business practices relating to the company’s sale of prepaid membership contracts. The contracts required large up-front fees in exchange for low guaranteed annual renewal rates that 24 Hour began raising in 2015, which was allegedly contrary to what was promised to the prepaid members by 24 Hour sales representatives. The settlement was filed yesterday in Orange County Superior Court and awaits signature by a judge.

Nurse arrested for allegedly abusing a Santa Ana boy with disabilities

Oscar Gilbert Felix, 54, of Orange, a nurse with 14 years of experience, was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of physically abusing a boy with disabilities, according to the O.C. Register.

The boy’s mother called police on Monday to report that a nanny cam caught the nurse hitting and kicking objects at her son last Friday, according to NBC News. Continue reading→

A teen walked into El Gallo Giro last night after being shot and injured

A teenager walked into El Gallo Giro, located at 1442 S. Bristol St., after being shot Tuesday night at around 8:30 p.m., according to the O.C. Register.

The unidentified 17-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital by an ambulance. He was treated for what was described as a nonlife-threatening wound to his leg, according to the SAPD. Continue reading→

The County will begin clearing the homeless out of the Santa Ana River Trail this Friday

County Announces Enforcement of Public Hours, Closure of One Area Along Santa Ana River Trail

Santa Ana, CA (Oct. 30, 2017) — On Friday, November 3, 2017, the County of Orange will begin active enforcement of public hours along the recreational Santa Ana River Trail (SART) that runs adjacent to the Santa Ana River flood control channel. In addition, beginning November 10, the County will permanently close to public use the west side of the flood control channel between 17th Street and Adams Avenue in the City of Fountain Valley.

OC Parks and the Orange County Flood Control District have had permanently posted signage declaring the public access hours along the entirety of the trail, though the hours have been inconsistently enforced. The public access hours will remain the same as currently posted, November 1-February 28 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and March 1-October 31 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Starting November 3, 2017, individuals who access the SART outside of the posted hours will be in violation of state trespass laws and subject to citation.
