SANTA ANA, CA – September 20-21, 2017
Together with multiple federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, the Santa Ana Police Department conducted a large-scale fugitive apprehension sweep throughout the City of Santa Ana over a two-day operation dubbed “Operation Clean Sweep”. The operation occurred in conjunction with the recently created partnership between the Santa Ana Police Department and US Marshals Service. Given the scope of this important initiative, the operation included personnel from the Santa Ana Police Department, US Marshals Service, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, State of California Parole and Orange County Probation Offices. Invasive Aedes Mosquitoes Increase in Numbers as they Spread Across Orange County
Garden Grove, CA. The Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District (OCMVCD) has seen a significant increase in the presence of the invasive Aedes mosquitoes within Orange County. The mosquito species Aedes aegypti (yellow fever mosquito) and Aedes albopictus (Asian tiger mosquito) are not native to the county and are capable of transmitting debilitating viruses including dengue, chikungunya, yellow fever and Zika. While these viruses are not currently transmitted locally, transmission could begin if someone infected abroad returns to Orange County and is bitten by the invasive mosquito. Vector Control officials are urging residents to take the necessary precautions to reduce mosquito breeding and to avoid bites from these aggressive day-biting mosquitoes.
The District’s surveillance and increased calls from residents confirm that in 2017, the presence of the invasive Aedes mosquitoes has increased in acreage by 330% within Orange County since last year. Continue reading

Community: Santa Ana City Council Approves Resolution Urging Congress to pass the Dream Act of 2017
At last night’s council meeting, the Santa Ana City Council approved a resolution urging the United States Congress to immediately pass the Dream Act of 2017 and to protect immigrant youth and families from deportation. Earlier this month, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program would be rescinded. Upon rescission, more than 800,000 individuals would lose their DACA status and accompanying protections, including their eligibility to remain in the U.S. and their eligibility to work.
DACA is an immigration policy established by the Obama administration in June 2012 that permits individuals who entered the country illegally as minors to receive a renewable two-year period of deferred action from deportation and eligibility for a work permit. Continue reading

COSTA MESA, Calif. – As part of the Costa Mesa Police Department’s (CMPD) continued commitment to reducing injury and fatalities caused by impaired drivers, a driving under the influence (DUI) checkpoint will be conducted by CMPD’s Traffic Unit on Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, from 8:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. within the city limits.
DUI checkpoints like this one are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests, affording the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence. Locations are chosen with safety considerations for the officers and the public. SAPD Detectives investigating a homicide in the 200 block of South Birch St.
On Monday, September 18, 2017, at 2:50 AM, the Santa Ana Police Department received a call stating a woman had been hurt. Officers responded to 215 South Birch Street #A and found an adult female deceased inside the apartment. Officers took an adult male into custody pending further investigation.
The decedent is currently listed as Jane Doe pending identification by the Orange County Coroner’s Office. Homicide detectives are preparing a search warrant for the location in furtherance of the investigation. Continue reading

A two alarm fire broke out at a commercial building located at the 1500 Block of E. McFadden, according to the OCFA. Approximately 50 OCFA & Orange City firefighters battled the blaze.

Get Rolling with New Program
Three-year program OK’d by students encourages use of public transportation
ORANGE – Officials from the Orange County Transportation Authority and Santa Ana College gathered today with students and community members at the college to mark the launch of a new pilot program that allows nearly 42,000 students to ride any OC Bus for free.
The free bus rides are part of a three-year pilot program, the first of its kind in Orange County, initiated by OCTA in cooperation with Santa Ana College administrators and approved by a vote of students at the college. Continue reading
