Luis Javier Cervantes, a 26-year-old man, raped his estranged wife in a hallway outside a room where their two young sons slept in Santa Ana, punched her in the head, cut her with a blade, and then fled in her car, according to an OCDA prosecutor as reported by the O.C. Register.
Cervantes’ defense attorney, Christian De Olivas, admits that his client is guilty of hitting his wife and taking her car, but he is alleging that his client did not rape the victim. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) convicted 14 men in November and December 2016 of loitering with the intent to commit prostitution or agreeing to engage in prostitution. The defendants in these cases approached a woman whom they believed to be a prostitute, or loitered in areas known for prostitution and human trafficking in Orange County. Each of the defendants below agreed to engage, or loitered with the intent to engage, in commercial sex with a woman and were subsequently arrested by law enforcement.

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. (January 10, 2017) –– Since July 2016, the start of the Orange County Water District’s (OCWD; the District) “water year,” north and central Orange County has received a total of 7.85 inches of rain. Storm events from December 15 through the January 6 weekend alone brought in 5.72 inches. Rather than big flashes of heavy rain, slow and steady rainstorms, spaced out by one to two weeks are optimal, since this allows temporary capture of stormwater behind Prado Dam in Riverside County and subsequent release of the captured stormwater to flow down the Santa Ana River and be diverted into groundwater recharge basins in Orange County, owned and managed by OCWD. 2017 is starting off just like 2016 started….WITH A BANG!!! And by BANG we mean lots of SHOOTINGS.
In the first 9 days of January 2017, there have been 9 different shooting incidents reported by the SAPD. The cycle just seems to keep repeating itself, and we hear the streets of Santa Ana are becoming more violent. A man in his mid-50s was sent to the hospital with severe burns Wednesday evening after a house at the 2700 block of Townley Street exploded in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
The incident was originally reported as a structure fire but an explosion occurred in the center of the house at around 8 p.m., according to the OCFA. Continue reading
Hector Maldonado Ibarra, 29, was arrested on Tuesday morning on suspicion of being a serial shoplifter – repeatedly terrorizing retailers and their employees in at least eight Orange County cities for about a year by brandishing a replica gun and swiping high-end merchandise – to feed a heroin addiction, according to the O.C. Register.
SAPD police officers found and arrested Ibarra after they served a search warrant at his Santa Ana home, where they also found thousands of dollars worth of merchandise and drug paraphernalia, according to the SAPD. The stolen and recovered items included Gucci and Michael Kors handbags as well as children’s clothing and perfumes. Continue reading
Jose Manuel Escobar, a 32-year-old man, was charged Tuesday with sexually assaulting three underage girls in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
Escobar is facing six counts of committing lewd acts on a minor younger than 14 and two counts of lewd acts on a minor, along with sentence-enhancing allegations of having more than one victim and molesting multiple children. Continue reading
Court Extends Grand Jury Application Deadline to February 1
Santa Ana, CA – Hon. Kirk Nakamura, Assistant Presiding Judge of the Orange County Superior Court and chair of the Grand Jury Recruitment and Selection Committee, announced today that the Court has extended the deadline to apply to serve on the next Grand Jury to February 1, 2017 due to a shortage of applicants.
Judge Nakamura said, “By law, the Court must impanel a 19-member Grand Jury each fiscal year to serve a one-year term. It is difficult to attract qualified individuals from all areas of Orange County who can devote 30 to 35 hours per week for this unique community service opportunity.” Panelists receive a $50 per day stipend, reimbursement for mileage, and reserved onsite parking at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana, where they meet. On Monday, January 9 at about 8 p.m., SAPD officers were sent to the area of 400 S. Birch regarding calls about a shooting, according to SAPD Case Number 17-846.
When the SAPD police officers arrived, evidence of a shooting was discovered and several subjects were detained resulting in an arrest for the shooting. The investigation is ongoing. Continue reading

SANTA ANA POLICE STEP UP DUI ENFORCEMENT
The Santa Ana Police Department will be conducting a DUI / Drivers License checkpoint on Friday, January 13th, 2017. It will begin at 9:30PM and is scheduled to conclude at 2:30AM. It will be conducted in the area of 1400 S. Bristol St., in the City of Santa Ana.
The primary purpose of a DUI Checkpoint is to deter impaired driving, not to increase arrests. All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI / Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as ensuring drivers have a valid driver’s license. The DMV reports that unlicensed drivers are 4.9 times more likely to cause a fatal crash than a licensed driver. Continue reading
At about 3 p.m. this afternoon, January 9, a juvenile male was near a wall in the area of S. Shelton and W. Highland Streets when he was approached by multiple suspects. One of the suspects shot at the victim who sustained a gunshot wound to the upper torso, according to SAPD Case Number 17-814.

This Sunday, Jan. 8, at about 10 p.m., SAPD police officers responded to the area of S. Birch and W. Chestnut reference a report of a shooting in the area, according to SAPD Case Numbers 17-750 & 17-746.
When the police officers arrived they located multiple casings in the area. Evidence revealed two males were in the area and they fired multiple shots. Continue reading

There were two more shootings in Santa Ana on Friday, Jan. 6. In the first incident SAPD police officers responded to the area of Harvard and Griset Streets, at 4 p.m., after receiving a report about a shooting, according to SAPD Case Number 17-544.
The police officers found a 30 year-old male who had been shot in the chest. He was taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment. Continue reading
