Community: SANTA ANA TO HOST TWO “BUILDING SAFETY MONTH” EVENTS
SANTA ANA, CA (May 1, 2014) – To help raise awareness of building safety, the City of Santa Ana proudly celebrates “Building Safety Month” during May. Building Safety Month is a public safety awareness campaign to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create safe, resilient, affordable and energy-efficient homes and buildings.
“Getting a building permit and a field inspection is the only way to ensure that the construction being done at your home or business is safe and complies with all building codes,” said Gerald Caraig, the City’s Building Official. “It also ensures that any improvements you make can legally be counted toward the value of your property if you wish to sell it in the future. It’s a win-win all the way around.”
This month, the City is holding two special events. On Wednesday, May 21 at HD Supply, located at 1044 E. 4th Street, from 10 am until 2 pm, and on Wednesday, May 28 at Home Depot located at 1750 E. Edinger from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, the community is invited to stop by and meet Building and Safety staff, ask questions and get useful information on permits and how they can benefit you.
To learn more about building safety, and the City’s building permit and inspection process, drop by City Hall’s one-stop development center at 20 Civic Center Plaza to pick up handouts on fire safety, disaster preparedness, backyard and pool safety, “green” building practices and more!
The City’s Planning and Building Agency maintains a wide variety of information on the building permitting and inspection process on their website at http://santa-ana.org/pba/buildingsafety/BuildingSafetyDivision.asp. You can even schedule an inspection for your permitted project by utilizing the City’s convenient on-line inspection scheduling system.
