Herbert Calderon arrested for fatal DUI collision on Bristol and Central

Advisory: SAPD Traffic Investigation- fatal collision Bristol/Central driver arrested DUI

ARRESTED: Herbert Granados Calderon (23) Santa Ana

On 10/25/14 at approximately 2121 hours, officers responded to a traffic collision at Bristol St. and Central Av. Officers arrived on scene and located three vehicles that were involved in the collision. Each vehicle had multiple passengers and there were several injuries. Paramedics further determined that an 18 year old male passenger in a Honda had been killed in the collision.

A Lexus traveled southbound on Bristol St. and failed to stop at the red light at Central Av. The Lexus broadsided a Honda and the force of that collision caused the Honda to collide with a Chevrolet pick-up truck. Continue reading→

Advisory: Traffic Division Investigators continue to investigate serious injury traffic collision

On 03/30/14 at approximately 1843 hours, a 10 year old child was walking with his adult brother in the crosswalk at 17th St. and Cabrillo Park Dr. As they crossed the street, a female driving a 2008, Ford, F150, pick-up failed to stop at a red light as she traveled westbound on 17th St. in the number one lane and struck the child in the crosswalk. The child was thrown approximately 100 feet and landed in the westbound traffic lanes of 17th St.

OCFA Paramedics responded to the scene and transported the child to the hospital where he remains with life threatening injuries. The female driver identified as Suray Leon (33), Santa Ana resident remained at the scene and was cooperative during the entire investigation. During the investigation it was determined that Leon the vehicles driver was under the influence of alcohol and she was arrested and booked at Santa Ana PD Jail for felony DUI. Continue reading→

A 29-year-old man was found dead in a Santa Ana neighborhood Thursday afternoon after apparently crashing his truck into a freeway median, then getting out and running away, the California Highway Patrol said, according to the OC Register.

UPDATE: The dead man has been identified by the Orange County Coroner as Rigoberto Gomez, 29, of Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

CHP spokesman Todd Kovaletz said witnesses saw the man driving recklessly in a 1992 Chevrolet 1500 pickup on southbound I-5 about 3:40 p.m. He lost control and hit a center-median wall before the truck came to rest in the right lane near Seventeenth Street. Continue reading→

Girl who crossed on red hit by two cars while walking to SAC

A 14-year-old girl who darted across a Santa Ana street in front of traffic was hit by two vehicles, and both drivers left the scene. One of the drivers has been arrested, but police are still searching for the other driver, according to ABC News.

A witnessed followed him from the scene and called police; he was arrested. The driver was identified as Adan Camacho, 32, of Santa Ana. He was booked into jail for felony hit-and-run and driving without a valid license, according to KTLA News. Continue reading→

Driver in fatal traffic collision has been identified as Brian Joseph McCarthy (61 year-old Placentia resident)

Details: On Monday, March 3rd, 2014 at 5:10 am, patrol officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of Susan Street and Central Avenue. The vehicles involved were red 1992 Toyota single cab pickup truck and a 2010 International commercial tractor, pulling a loaded 37-foot trailer. The vehicles collided head-on. Continue reading→

Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Fatal Traffic Collision – Mc Fadden/Mohawk one fatal, three additional persons injured

On Saturday, November 16th, 2013 at 1:48 am, patrol officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle traffic collision at the intersection of McFadden Avenue and Mohawk Drive. The officers located one vehicle that had three trapped/injured occupants and requested the assistance of OCFA and Medics. The vehicles involved were a ’89 silver Nissan Sentra and a ’06 black Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck. Driver slams his car into a power pole on West 1st St. and Kenton Drive

A 32-year-old man was cut out of a small car after driving into a power pole on West First Street and Kenton Drive, in Santa Ana, on Thursday night at about 7:30 pm, authorities said, according to the O.C. Register.

The man was taken to a trauma center at Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with a broken arm and various cuts and scrapes.  The Santa Ana Police suspect that alcohol or drug use may have caused the crash, according to Santa Ana police Cmdr. Eric Paulson. Continue reading→

MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED TODAY FOR FLEEING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT LEADING TO DEATH OF HIS GIRLFRIEND AND ENDANGERING 13-MONTH-OLD GIRL

SANTA ANA – A man is scheduled to be arraigned today for fleeing the scene of an accident which led to the death of his girlfriend on Halloween night and endangering a 13-month-old girl. Francisco Javier Montano, 21, Irvine, is charged with one felony count of hit and run with permanent injury or death, one felony count of child abuse and endangerment, and one misdemeanor count of driving without a valid license. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of seven years in state prison and six months in jail. He is being held on $200,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.

At approximately 8:00 p.m. on Oct 31, 2013, Montano is accused of driving a Toyota RAV4 eastbound near 1600 West Edinger Avenue in Santa Ana with his 21-year-old girlfriend Gloria Sanchez and 13-month-old Jane Doe. Continue reading→

SAPD Advisory: Victim of Auto vs. Pedestrian collision – 10/13/13 dies from her injuries today. 68 year old woman identified

On Friday, 10/11/13, Petra Perez Jimenez – sixty-eight year old female (Santa Ana ) was struck by a vehicle while pushing a shopping cart through the intersection of Grant Street and Standard Avenue.

The female was transported to Western Medical Center for treatment. The motorist who was driving a Toyota Camry northbound Standard, subsequently struck the pedestrian at the intersection of Grant Street remained at the scene.

SAPD Advisory: Motorcycle Driver from 8/22/2013 fatal traffic collision 1st Street at Olive identified

Motorcyclist: Francisco Rincon (19) Fountain Valley

On August 22, 2013 at 9:55 am, a Ford F150 Pickup was making a U-turn from eastbound 1st Street to westbound at Olive Street. A Yamaha R6 motorcycle driven by Francisco Rincon was westbound on 1st Street. The Ford driver saw the motorcycle accelerating toward the intersection. The Ford driver stopped in the #2 westbound lane. The Motorcyclist (Rincon) attempted to brake, lost control and struck the pickup. Continue reading→

My wife and I drove the kids to New Mexico this summer for our annual family vacation.  We visited the Carlsbad Caverns and stopped in Tucson and Tombstone along the way and on the way back.  It was a very long drive and along the way we passed a semi truck that flipped on its side.  I thought of this as I read about the tragic accident that took the life of a Santa Ana mother and father, Martin Saldana, 50, and Adela Santana, 46, on Saturday, August 10, 2013.  This could very well have happened to us! 3-year old struck and killed by possible drunk driver, in Santa Ana

Tragedy struck tonight, at approximately 6:22 pm, when a 3-year old was struck by a car, in Santa Ana.  He died later in a local hospital.

According to the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD) a family was crossing 5th Street at Bewely and was reportedly holding the hand of their 3 year-old. A passing vehicle struck the 3 year-old and fled the scene.

Witnesses were able to provide a vehicle description and license plate. Santa Ana police officers located the suspect vehicle and suspect at 1300 N. Clinton. The suspect was taken into custody and it appears DUI is possibly a factor. Continue reading→
