While some people were making plans to see the new Star Wars movie, a man in his 20’s was leading police officers on a high-speed pursuit on a busy local street in Santa Ana, early on Friday morning, before crashing his car into one drive by a woman, who ended up at a hospital trauma center, according to the O.C. Register.
A CHP patrol officer saw a driver speeding on West Seventeenth Street, near the I-5 Freeway entrance, just past midnight, at 12:15 a.m., on Friday morning. The CHP officer tried to pull over the vehicle, which was described as a Nissan Altima. Continue reading
Ricardo Salgado, a 22-year-old resident of Santa Ana, died tragically before 1:15 a.m. this morning when he crashed his car into a lamp post near the intersection of Valencia and Red Hill Avenues, in Tustin, according to the O.C. Register.
Salgado was speeding in a Honda before he crashed into the lamp post, according to the police. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tustin Police and the O.C. Fire Authority.
The police do not know what direction that Salgado was heading in before the crash or whether he might have been under the influence. However the police investigators do suspect that speeding was a factor in the accident. Continue reading

An unidentified 18-year-old man crashed into two vehicles on Tuesday night at around 7:30 p.m. while he was speeding on a 2015 KTM Sport motorcycle, in Costa Mesa, just south of Paularino Elementary School, according to the O.C. Register.
The victim was driving westbound in the right-hand lane of Baker Street, approaching Coolidge Ave. Apparently he was driving too fast when he collided into a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe that was being driven by 81-year-old Costa Mesa resident Gertrude Hall. She was in front the of the motorcyclist, in the same lane, when she began to turn right on Coolidge Avenue. The motorcyclist was not expecting the turn by Hall and he ran right into the side of her SUV. Continue reading

An unidentified man in his 30s was badly injured on Monday night, at 7:45 p.m., when he was struck by a car while he was riding a bicycle on West 17th St. somewhere between North Fairview and North King Streets, in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
The car’s male driver stayed at the scene of the accident and told police investigators that the bicyclist “came out of nowhere.” The bicyclist was apparently not in a bike lane when the accident occurred. Continue reading
An unidentified man in his mid-20s landed on the roof of a moving OCTA bus at about 10 a.m. this morning, after trying to kill himself by jumping from the top of a five-story parking garage, next to the northbound 5 Freeway at the 1st/4th street exit, according to the O.C. Register.
The man fell about 100 feet before landing on the OCTA bus. The bus driver heard the impact and he saw a portion of the man’s body, as it had crashed through the roof. The bus driver immediately pulled over the bus, which was empty at the time.
Several firefighters from the O.C. Fire Authority used ladders to climb onto the top of the bus where they deployed a Stokes basket to safely lower the victim to the ground. Continue reading
An unidentified 81-year-old Santa Ana man was struck on Friday morning at 6:17 a.m., while crossing the right-hand northbound lane of Fairview Road, 50 yards south of Baker Street, in Costa Mesa, causing two lanes to be closed during the investigation, according to the O.C. Register.
The elderly victim was walking eastbound when Bao Hoai Duong, 52 of Garden Grove, who was driving a 2002 Dodge van northbound on Fairview Road, struck him. Continue reading

A 51-year-old Santa Ana woman, Karen Portillo, was killed on Sunday night at about 8:30 p.m. when she was struck by a Ford Flex at First Street, west of Yorba Avenue while she was crossing the street, according to Behind the Badge.
Portillo was walking on First Street when she entered Yorba Street to cross it, according to the O.C. Register.
The unidentified driver was driving through the intersection when she hit Portillo with her vehicle. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A drunken driver was sentenced today to six years and four months in state prison for killing a woman by crashing into her motorcycle after making an unsafe turn into an intersection. Steven Todd Newcomer, 47, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty June 22, 2015, to one felony count each of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated without gross negligence and hit and run causing death.
At approximately 8:40 p.m. on April 12, 2012, 32-year-old Kimberly Krause was riding her motorcycle eastbound on Chapman Avenue approaching the intersection at Pioneer Lane in Garden Grove. Newcomer was driving under the influence of alcohol traveling westbound on Chapman Avenue toward the same intersection. Continue reading

A car accident involving two vehicles occurred this morning at about 9:30 a.m. in Downtown Santa Ana where Fifth and Santa Ana Blvd. merge at Ross St., by the Federal Appellate Court. The impact was so severe that one of the vehicles was flipped on its side, according to freelance photographer Igmar Rodas.
Emergency crew had to use the jaws of life to free the injured female driver in the flipped vehicle. There was a large presence of Santa Ana police doing traffic control and investigating the accident. Continue reading
A man in his early 40s, whose identity is not yet known, lost control of his bicycle and was hit by an oncoming pickup truck on Wednesday night, while going east in a bike lane near the 900 block of East McFadden Avenue, in Santa Ana, at 9:05 p.m, according to the O.C. Register.
The man apparently lost control and veered into traffic. He was hit by an oncoming truck whose driver did not have sufficient time to stop. Continue reading
There have been a lot of strange vehicle accidents in Santa Ana this summer but this latest incident might top the list. A man drove his Nissan SUV into an ambulance that was rushing to respond to a medical emergency on Standard Ave., on Wednesday at about 10:05 a.m., according to the O.C. Register.
The accident occurred near East Edinger Ave. and Cedar Street, in Santa Ana, just south of Madison Park. Continue reading
