Santa Ana Police Department
On 2/12/18, at 10:53 p.m., the suspect entered a business located in the 3700 block of W. McFadden and assaulted the victim. The suspect pointed a semi-auto handgun at the victim and demanded money. The suspect then struck the victim on the head several times with the handgun while pulling her hair. The suspect violently attacked the victim and strangled her while preventing her from escaping. John Luis Whelpley, a 45-year-old ex-con, was charged on Tuesday with assault and making criminal threats for allegedly attacking a 3-year-old girl with a screwdriver and another victim with a flower pot, golf club and a chunk of concrete in Santa Ana on Christmas Eve, according to the O.C. Register.
Whelpley was charged with four felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon or force likely to produce great bodily injury and one count of making criminal threats, according to court records. Continue reading→

On March 26, 2015, at approximately 8:45 PM, Santa Ana Police Detectives working in partnership with the U.S. Marshal’s Pacific Southwest Fugitive Task Force, arrested Sergio Joaquin Mendoza, age 25, for kidnapping, domestic violence abuse, and making criminal threats. Mendoza is currently being held at the Orange County Jail. Bail has been set at $100,000.
On March 21, 2015, Mendoza and his girlfriend were living together in a rented room in his grandmother’s house in Santa Ana. That day, Mendoza and the victim had an argument. Mendoza allegedly began assaulting the victim and prevented her from leaving the residence. He continued assaulting her throughout the day and carved his name on the victim’s chest with a razor blade. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA – A man was convicted and sentenced today for sexually assaulting two women and stabbing one of them in the head after luring or pulling them into his car. Juan Carlos Quintas, 31, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty yesterday, Sept. 10, 2012, to one felony count of forced oral copulation for Jane Doe #1, one felony count of forcible rape for Jane Doe #2, and two felony counts of aggravated assault with a knife. He was sentenced to seven years in state prison and lifetime sex offender registration. The sentence was a negotiated plea between the People and the defense, taking into consideration the wishes of the victims. Continue reading→

Case # 09CF3141: MAN CONVICTED OF CHRISTMAS EVE SEXUAL ASSAULT OF 8-YEAR-OLD FEMALE RELATIVE INCLUDING ORAL COPULATION AND RAPE AND/OR SODOMY
SANTA ANA – A man was convicted today of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old female relative, including oral copulation and rape and/or sodomy, on Christmas Eve while family members slept in other rooms. Jorge Miguel Gallegos, 38, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury of one felony count of sexual intercourse or sodomy with a child, two felony counts of oral copulation or sexual penetration with a child, and one felony count each of digital penetration of a child under 10, lewd acts on a child under 14, and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime. Gallegos faces a sentence ranging from a minimum of 55 years to life to a maximum of 66 years to life in state prison at his sentencing May 11, 2012, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-36, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
