Community: Press Release – NBPD Seeks the Public’s Assistance in Identifying Suspects for Attempted Bank Robbery Investigation

The Newport Beach Police Department is seeking a suspect and any possible witnesses for an attempted bank robbery investigation. The crime occurred on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at approximately 1:35 p.m. at the Bank of America in Eastbluff Village Center (2501 Eastbluff Drive).

According to statements received by the NBPD, one male entered the bank with a grey Bank of America money bag. The suspect then approached a bank teller and presented what appeared to be a business check. The check had a hand written note on the back stating, “This is a robbery, I have a gun.” The teller had difficulty opening the money drawer, at which point the suspect stated, “Hurry up, you have 10 seconds.” The suspect then raised his voice and once again told the teller to hurry up, which caught the attention of the bank manager who then walked towards the suspect. The suspect then walked out of the bank with no money, and appeared to get into a white truck being driven by an additional unknown suspect. Continue reading→

Advisory: Detectives From Santa Ana & Costa Mesa PDs Asking For Assistance In Identifying Suspects In An Elderly Scam

On 04/11/2017 at approximately 1:20 pm, an elderly 84 year-old victim was approached by two suspects on the street, convinced to go to the bank and withdraw money from his account, which was eventually taken by the waiting suspects. A similar crime was reported to the Costa Mesa PD on 04/28/2017 at 1030 a.m. These suspects are known to loiter around banks and bus stops near banks. Continue reading→

Two men stopped to ask a 67-year-old Santa Ana man for directions sometime last week, then struck up a conversation with the man about money, according to the O.C. Register.

The two suspects told the man that his money was not safe in the bank – and then showed him $1,500 in cash that they were holding. They then made a bet with the man that if he could withdraw his life savings from the bank without complications they would give him their money. Continue reading→

A man who likes to wear sports team caps has robbed two local banks in the Cities of Orange and Santa Ana in the past week, according to the O.C. Register.

The man robbed a Farmers and Merchants bank at 1220 E. Katella Ave. this Tuesday at around 4 p.m. The Orange Police responded to that crime scene.

The man is reported to be between 25 and 30 years old. He stands about 5′ 11″ and weighs about 150 pounds. He walked into the bank wearing black sweater, blue jeans and a black Miami Heat sports cap with an orange bill, according to the Orange Police. Continue reading→

Transient robs the B of A in Downtown Santa Ana but a tracking device leads to his arrest

Dia Chanh Diep, a 43 year-old transient who robbed a Bank of America branch located at 102 W. Fourth Street in Downtown Santa Ana, on Tuesday at 5 p.m., was arrested minutes later because the bundle of money he stole contained a dye pack and a tracking device inside, according to the SAPD.

Diep presented the teller with a note, which stated he had a gun and demanded money. Out of fear for her safety, the teller provided the suspect with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency. The suspect fled the location on foot. Continue reading→

Advisory: Santa Ana Police Department Arrests Suspect For Bank Robbery

Location: Schools 1st Bank (2115 N. Broadway)

Arrested: Justin Thomas Yrrarazaval (20) Santa Ana

On 5-29-15 at 9:00 A.M., an SAPD Patrol Officer observed suspect Yrrarazaval walking in the 1300 block of North Spurgeon Street. The Officer believed Yrrarazaval was the same suspect he observed on surveillance video during a bank robbery at Schools First Bank (2115 N. Broadway,) on 5-28-2015.

Robbery Detectives responded to the officer’s location and transported the suspect to the Police Department where he was questioned about his involvement in the Bank Robbery. Yrrarazaval was booked into Santa Ana Police Jail on the charge of CPC 211 – Bank Robbery. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA – A man dubbed the “Snowboarder Bandit” was convicted today of committing robberies in 10 Orange County banks. Michael Brandon Franks, 30, Riverside, pleaded guilty to a court offer today to 10 felony counts of second degree robbery and two felony counts of attempted second degree robbery. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: SAPD Seeks Public’s Assistance to Help Identify Bank Robbery Suspects

SANTA ANA, CA (June 4, 2013) – On 6/4/13 at approximately 9:40 am, a male suspect entered US Bank, located at 2740 N. Grand, armed with a black semi-automatic handgun. The suspect had his face concealed with a hoodie and mask and ordered all the customers to get on the ground face first. The suspect then ordered the bank employees to put money in a bag. The customers and bank employees complied with the suspect’s commands before the suspect fled out of the bank north on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect then met up with another suspect, acting as a lookout, and they both fled on foot west into an adjacent apartment complex. Witnesses reported the suspects’ actions and investigating officers located two separate areas where they dropped money. The money was recovered, however, the suspects avoided capture.
