The new Santa Ana Olive Garden location is opening up this Wednesday

The popular Olive Garden restaurant at the MainPlace Mall closed on Sunday night after some 30 years at that location. The good news is that their new restaurant is opening this Wednesday, at 11 a.m., across the street at the City Place, at 2791 N. Main St.

Parking at the City Place is awful but folks will be able to park at the MainPlace Mall and just walk across the street to the City Place. Or even park just north of the City Place at the shopping center where Barnes and Noble is located. Continue reading→

Olive Garden is leaving the MainPlace Mall and moving to the City Place

The MainPlace Mall took two more hits this week as Olive Garden announced that they are closing the restaurant they have had at that mall for over 25 years, and the clothing store Chico’s also closed down this week, according to the O.C. Register.

The good news is that the Olive Garden is staying in Santa Ana – they are literally moving across the street from the MainPlace Mall to the City Place, where they are taking over the vacancy that was left when McCormick & Schmick’s closed that location five years ago. Continue reading→

The Curry House has shut down their restaurant at the City Place in Santa Ana

Curry House, a Japanese restaurant that specialized in curry and spaghetti, closed down their restaurant in Santa Ana, according to Yelp.

Curry House was located in the City Place shopping center, at 131 E. Memory Lane, adjacent to Mother’s Market. They have posted a sign on their door thanking their customers. Continue reading→

Pinkberry at the City Place in Santa Ana has closed down

The Pinkberry at the City Place in Santa Ana has closed, according to the O.C. Register.

The City Place lost two other restaurants last year – zpizza and McCormick & Schmick’s.

Pinkberry bills themselves as the original tart frozen yogurt brand from Los Angeles CA. They started in 2005, and have grown to 21 countries in just 10 years. Continue reading→

Santa Ana’s City Place recently suffered through the abrupt closure of their McCormick & Schmicks restaurant, but there is good news to report now, as a new restaurant called Paninoteca Maggio opened its doors at 195 City Place Dr., in April of this year.

“Turns out, this isn’t your average sandwich shop – Chef Sharron Barshishat is formerly of L.A.-based food truck Great Balls on Tires,” according to the O.C. Register. Great Balls on Fire (GBOT) serves meatballs and other savory balls of food, according to their website. Continue reading→

Sign twirler hit at the City Place

As I was driving home on Friday, south on Main St., I wondered why the light was out at the intersection of Main and Town and Country – and why there were so many police around.

It turns out that an out of control car hit a man twirling a sign advertising Original Hems, a tailor at the City Place shopping center.

“An older man was driving the Mercury south on Main Street just after 3 p.m. Friday when he lost control near West Town and County Road, said Cmdr. Jeff Owens of the Santa Ana Police Department. A sign twirler working on the sidewalk was hit by the out-of-control Cougar and ended up pinned underneath the car, Owens said,” according to the O.C. Register.

There are some folks in Santa Ana who are entirely opposed to sign twirlers. My concern is for their well-being. Continue reading→

Habit Burger coming to Santa Ana

Santa Barbara’s iconic The Habit Burger Grill – known for its juicy ‘charburgers’ — said it plans to open its first Orange County restaurant near the MainPlace mall, at the City Place in Santa Ana, which is located at 2777 N. Main St., according to the Orange County Register.

Apparently the restaurant may be open by December.

These burgers are supposed to be better tasting than In N’ Out burgers! Continue reading→
