SANTA ANA – A car business owner and operator was convicted and sentenced today for embezzling $200,000 from the sale proceeds of rare and vintage vehicles sold on consignment. John Calicchio, 63, Costa Mesa, pleaded guilty to 14 counts of embezzlement by fiduciary of trust, two counts of diversion of funds, and four counts of money laundering with a sentencing enhancement for property loss over $200,000. Under the State sentencing law (AB 109), the court split the defendant’s sentence. Calicchio was sentenced to 16 months in jail, two years of mandatory supervision, and ordered to pay $177,000 restitution. Continue reading

(July 8, 2013) – The 2013 OC Fair will open its gates Friday, July 12, to mark the beginning of the much-anticipated annual tradition that runs until Sunday, August 11 (open Wednesday-Sunday). Migrant Agricultural Worker Memorial Call for Artists
The 32nd District Agricultural Association OC Fair & Event Center Board of Directors has elected to erect a memorial to commemorate the contributions of migrant agricultural workers to the growth and prosperity of Orange County. The project is open to California-based artists working in any media appropriate to the site and climate of coastal southern California.
Artists are encouraged to consider any area within the Centennial Farm. An additional proposed site for this project is located in the plaza and foyer area of the new entrance to the Pacific Amphitheater, an onsite performance space seating approximately 8,200. Estimated completion date for this new construction is spring, 2014. DRUNKEN DRIVER TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR KILLING BROTHER AND INJURING NEPHEW IN SINGLE-CAR CRASH
SANTA ANA – A drunken driver will be arraigned today for killing his brother and injuring his nephew by crashing his truck while driving at an unsafe speed. Felix Jacobo Brito, 37, Costa Mesa, is charged with one felony count of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated without gross negligence, one felony count of driving under the influence causing bodily injury, one misdemeanor count of driving a motor vehicle without a valid license, and sentencing enhancements and allegations for causing bodily injury and death to more than one victim and causing great bodily injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of seven years in state prison. Brito is being held on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned today, Wednesday, March 13, 2013, in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined. Continue reading

SANTA ANA – A man was convicted and sentenced today for exposing himself to young girls in public on multiple occasions near two high schools. Alfredo Landaverde, 48, Costa Mesa, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure and five misdemeanor counts of child annoyance. Landaverde was sentenced to one year in jail, five years formal probation, and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration. Continue reading
