On Sunday, June 18, 2017, at about 2:20 a.m., Costa Mesa police officers were dispatched to West 19th Street and Harbor Boulevard regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian hit and run collision.

SANTA ANA, Calif.— The California Supreme Court affirmed yesterday the death penalty verdict for the “Bedroom Basher,” a serial rapist and murderer who committed a string of home invasion rape-murders in Orange County in the late 1970s. This affirmation followed the defendant’s automatic death penalty appeal.
In October 1998, Gerald Parker, a former Marine, was convicted by a jury of the first degree murders of Sandy Fry, Kimberly Rawlins, Marolyn Carleton, Chantal Green, Debora Kennedy, and Debora Senior, with the special circumstances enhancements for committing multiple murders and murder during the attempted commission or commission of a rape and burglary. Advisory: Man arrested for robbery after pepper spraying victim before fleeing with stolen goods

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) arrested Costa Mesa resident Matthew Chima Udechukwu, 18, yesterday after he met a stranger under the guise of purchasing goods but instead pepper spraying the victim in the face before fleeing with stolen property.
At about 12:15 p.m. on May 30, 2017, CMPD officers responded to a report of a robbery that had just taken place. The 18-year-old male victim was selling a pair of designer shoes that he had advertised on a resale app, and Udechukwu had met with the victim to purchase the shoes. After inspecting the shoes, it is suspected that Udechukwu pepper sprayed the victim in the face, incapacitating him, and fled on foot with the stolen shoes. Continue reading

Jeffrey Robert Smith, a 45-year-old Costa Mesa man, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, after he admitted to peeping and molesting some of his victims, according to the O.C. Register.
Smith pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree burglary and single counts each of assault with intent to commit a sex offense and inflicting injury on an elder adult, all felonies, as well as multiple misdemeanor counts of touching an intimate part of another person, indecent exposure, peeping, disorderly conduct, aggravated trespass and lewd conduct in a public place, on Friday, May 12. On 04/11/2017 at approximately 1:20 pm, an elderly 84 year-old victim was approached by two suspects on the street, convinced to go to the bank and withdraw money from his account, which was eventually taken by the waiting suspects. The Costa Mesa Police Department is searching for a missing 12-year-old autistic male, Diego Garcia, from the 1200 block of Adams Ave. in Costa Mesa.

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A felon is facing additional charges for human trafficking, pimping, pandering, and assault. Deunta Patterson, 26, Bakersfield, was arraigned yesterday, March 28, 2017, with 22 felony counts of pandering by promise, threat, or violence to become a prostitute, four felony counts each of pimping and pandering a minor over 16 years old by procuring, two felony counts each of human trafficking, human trafficking of a minor, and attempted pimping, and one felony count each of pimping a minor, pandering, and assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury. Patterson also faces sentencing enhancements for human trafficking of a minor by force and/or fear and a prior strike conviction for residential burglary in 2013 in Kern County. If convicted, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison. Patterson is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on April 26, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-57, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. Continue reading

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) is currently investigating the stabbing death of a male victim as a homicide. CMPD and Costa Mesa Fire Department responded to multiple calls regarding a possible stabbing at the 600 block of Shasta Lane, at approximately 5:20 a.m. this morning, March 11, 2017.
When officers arrived, they were directed by several subjects into a 2-story apartment complex. Upon entering, officers located an unresponsive male in his 30s with severe injuries inside the residence. The caller, a female acquaintance of the victim, was located in an upstairs bedroom. Ryan Michael Booth, a 31-year old Long Beach man, faces 128 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting a family member in Costa Mesa for more than a year, starting when she was 9 months old, and circulating videos of his acts online, according to the O.C. Register.

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) has identified the suspect in the 1997 cold case rape-murder of 26-year-old Sunny Adrienne Sudweeks. The identity of the suspect has been unknown until recently and after extensive follow-up investigation and exhausting all avenues to capture the suspect, CMPD hopes to bring the suspect to justice by making his identity known.
