WESTMINSTER – A registered sex offender was sentenced today to three years in state prison for arranging to meet an underage girl for sex through Craigslist. Carlton Earl Griner, 56, Garden Grove, pleaded guilty today to one felony count each of contacting a child with intent to commit a lewd act, meeting a minor with intent to engage in lewd conduct, and attempted lewd act upon a child under 14 years old. Griner was also required to register as a lifetime sex offender in California based on his prior conviction of possessing child pornography in Iowa. Continue reading→

MAN CHARGED WITH STABBING-MURDER OF VICTIM IN HUNTINGTON BEACH APARTMENT
WESTMINSTER – A man has been charged with the stabbing-murder of a 51-year-old victim in a Huntington Beach apartment. Rito Samuel Tejeda, 22, Santa Ana, was charged today with one felony count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon and faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison if convicted. Tejeda is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled for a continued arraignment Nov. 22, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. in Department W-1, West Justice Center, Westminster. The time is to be determined. WESTMINSTER – Law enforcement is seeking the public’s help identifying potential additional victims of a former assistant track coach charged with attempting to record video of a woman changing clothes inside a dressing room. Scott Douglas Ruvolo, 56, Victorville, is charged with one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct of attempting to secretly film another. THIRD STRIKER FACES TRIAL FOR CAUSING EXPLOSION THAT STARTED FIRE INSIDE HIS MOTEL ROOM
SANTA ANA – A third striker faces trial tomorrow for causing an explosion that started a fire inside his motel room. Thanh Van Quang, 39, Fountain Valley, is charged with one felony count each of arson of an inhabited property and possession of a flammable material with sentencing enhancements for arson with use of an accelerant, and four prior strike convictions from 1998 for voluntary manslaughter, assault with a firearm, and two felony counts of robbery. If convicted, Quang faces a maximum sentence of 31 years to life in state prison. SANTA ANA – A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy was convicted yesterday of repeatedly assaulting a woman, with whom he had a relationship, after she discovered on Christmas Day that he was sexually involved with another woman. Mark Eric Hibner, 44, Anaheim, was found guilty by a jury yesterday, Oct. 22, 2013, of two felony counts of domestic battery with corporal injury and three felony counts of criminal threats. He faces a maximum sentence of eight years in state prison at his sentencing Nov. 15, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-29, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
At the time of the crimes, Hibner was a 22-year deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He was involved in a romantic relationship with Jane Doe #1 for several years. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA – A man was convicted today of murdering another man by hitting him in the head and face with the handle of an axe before fleeing the scene in the victim’s car. Jorge Santiago Avalos, 27, was found guilty by a jury of one felony count of murder and faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to life in state prison at his sentencing Dec. 20, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-30, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
