On 10/17/13, Santa Ana Police Officers were dispatched to Carr Intermediate to investigate a possible child molestation. The investigation revealed that the now 13-year-old Jane Doe had been “friended” through Facebook by a 42-year-old male when she was age 12. The suspect identified as Manuel Arevalo Parada (Santa Ana) communicated with the victim on Facebook until four months ago. At that time the suspect arranged to discreetly meet with the victim on multiple occasions and engaged in lewd conduct with her over a 3-4 month period. Continue reading

Man caught videotaping women at Salvation Army dressing room

On 7-11-13 the Fountain Valley Police Department arrested Scott Ruvolo, 56 years of age from Victorville, after he was attempting to record women changing in the dressing room at the Salvation Army thrift store located at 16119 Brookhurst in Fountain Valley.
A search of Ruvolo’s cell phone revealed he recorded two additional unidentified female victims undressing at the same store just prior to his arrest. Other video footage indicates Ruvolo had his cell phone clipped to his belt and recorded women while walking around unknown Target stores and Starbucks. This occurred between June of 2013 to July of 2013. Continue reading

Santa Ana comes in at #45 in the FBI’s 2012 Safest Cities report
If you live in Thousand Oaks, Irvine, Simi Valley, Murrieta, Glendale, or Santa Clarita, you can go ahead and leave your doors unlocked at night: your cities have named some of the safest in America according to the FBI’s newly released 2012 crime statistics, as reported by California City News.
So what about Santa Ana? Our city came in #45th. Fontana was #46. Los Angeles was #53. SAN FRANCISCO — Attorney General Kamala D. Harris today filed a lawsuit against Corinthian Colleges, Inc. (CCI) and its subsidiaries that operate Everest, Heald and WyoTech colleges for false and predatory advertising, intentional misrepresentations to students, securities fraud and unlawful use of military seals in advertisements.
The complaint alleges that CCI intentionally targeted low-income, vulnerable Californians through deceptive and false advertisements and aggressive marketing campaigns that misrepresented job placement rates and school programs. CCI deployed these advertisements through persistent internet, telemarketing and television ad campaigns. The complaint further alleges that Corinthian executives knowingly misrepresented job placement rates to investors and accrediting agencies, which harmed students, investors and taxpayers. TWO MEN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR THE MURDER OF ONE WOMAN AND THE ATTEMPTED MURDER OF FEMALE BYSTANDER
SANTA ANA – Two men will be arraigned tomorrow for the murder of one woman and attempted murder of a female bystander. Jaime Prieto Rocha, 40, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of murder. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison. Co-defendant Irvin Tellez, 25, Garden Grove, is charged with one felony count each of murder and attempted murder, with sentencing enhancements for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death, personal discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury, and great bodily injury. If convicted, Tellez faces a maximum sentence of 75 years to life in state prison. Continue reading

*Defendant is accused of fleeing the scene in victim’s car and was later arrested for DUI
SANTA ANA – A man faces trial tomorrow for murdering another man by hitting him in the head and face with the handle of an axe before fleeing the scene in the victim’s car. Jorge Santiago Avalos, 27, is charged with one felony count of murder and faces a maximum sentence of 15 years to life in state prison if convicted. This is a re-trial of the case where a jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict in April 2012. Opening statements are expected to begin tomorrow, Oct. 10, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in Department C-30, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. Continue reading
