Maricela Gonzalez reunited with her sons

Family and friends gathered at the airport Friday night to welcome home a Santa Ana Valley High School schoolteacher, Maricela Gonzales, and her two sons Friday night, more than a year after the boys were allegedly abducted by their father, James Gonzales, a former school SAUSD principal, according to CBS News.

The two boys, who were missing for a year, are known by Maricela as Pablito and R.J.  They were allegedly kidnapped during a custody dispute by their father, who remains in custody in Colorado for multiple alleged crimes. Continue reading→

Children found dead at a Santa Ana hotel after a tip from a suicidal woman

UPDATE: Santa Ana detectives have arrested the mother of two children found dead in a hotel room Saturday. She is from Arizona, according to CBS News.

A  42-year-old woman whose last known residence was in San Jose intentionally crashed her car behind a Costa Mesa store, and then said something that led the police to investigate a Santa Ana hotel room, where two children were found dead inside, police said Saturday. Police have not disclosed the relationship between the woman and children or how they died, according to the O.C. Register.

As paramedics were preparing to take the injured woman to a hospital, “she made some statements that indicated a crime might have occurred” in Santa Ana, Costa Mesa Sgt. Tim Starn said, according to the AP. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to 10 years in state prison for kidnapping a victim by posing as a police officer and soliciting sex with the victim’s wife in exchange for the victim’s freedom. Tariq Ibrahim Musa, 33, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty today to one felony count each of kidnapping, false imprisonment, grand theft person, and being in receipt of stolen property.

WOMAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR LOSING CONTROL OF SUV WHILE DUI OF ALCOHOL KILLING ONE PASSENGER AND CAUSING MAJOR INJURIES TO ANOTHER

WESTMINSTER – A woman will be arraigned tomorrow for driving under the influence of alcohol and losing control of her sport utility vehicle (SUV) that killed one passenger and left another passenger with major injuries. Shauna Nalani Ahyen,22, Wailuku, Hawaii, is charged with one felony count each of vehicular manslaughter by lawful act that might cause deathwith gross negligence while intoxicated, driving under the influence causing bodily injury, driving with a blood alcoholcontent of .08 percent or more causing bodily injury with a sentencing enhancement for causing great bodily injury. Ifconvicted, she faces a maximum sentence of 13 years and eight months in state prison. Detectives have placed Jose Miguel Avalos, 27 of Santa Ana, in custody for homicide. Avalos was booked into Santa Ana Police Department Jail. Autopsy scheduled for tomorrow 9-12-13. TWO SEX PURCHASERS CONVICTED FOR SOLICITING SEX FROM WOMAN WHOM THEY BELIEVED TO BE PROSTITUTE

SANTA ANA – Two sex purchasers were convicted and sentenced Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, for soliciting sex from a woman whom they believed to be a prostitute. Baltazar Fernandez, 60, Riverside, and Francisco Cortez Santiago, 30, Santa Ana, each pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of agreeing to engage in prostitution. Both defendants were sentenced to three years of informal probation, 10 days in jail with the possibility of CalTrans in lieu of jail, donations to the Victim/Witness Emergency Fund, and must submit to AIDS testing and education.
