OCSD expands homeless outreach efforts to target crime along Santa Ana Riverbed

SANTA ANA, Ca. (Sept. 12, 2017) – The Orange County Board of Supervisors today unanimously approved a resolution to support enhanced patrol efforts along the Santa Ana Riverbed and County flood control channels.

The action by the Board is consistent with the Sheriff’s Department’s efforts to expand its already-established Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) with an enforcement detail tasked with targeting crime along the Santa Ana Riverbed. Continue reading→

Community: Santa Ana City Council Takes Action against Illegal Marijuana Dispensaries

SANTA ANA, CA – At their last council meeting, the Santa Ana City Council authorized the filing and prosecution of receivership actions against the owners of four marijuana dispensaries operating illegally throughout the city. The Council’s action on September 5, 2017, escalates the City’s efforts to permanently shut down these dispensaries which pose extreme health and safety hazards to the community.

Receivership is a legal process through which control of a piece of real property is temporarily taken from the property owner and placed with a court-appointed office, or Receiver. These receivership actions are used primarily for abandoned and substandard properties where the owner has a history of non-compliance with the City’s code enforcement efforts, or for emergency situations where real property presents an immediate threat to health and safety. On Wednesday, September 13th at 4:43 a.m. hours, our officers attempted to stop a vehicle that was just stolen from the victim’s driveway in the area of Hazard and Jackson. The suspect, Alfredo Hernandez, 38-years old, led our officers in a brief pursuit that covered a little more than a mile to the area of N. Hawley and W. 5th Street. A Santa Ana man was arrested after a five-hour standoff with the SAPD on Monday

An unidentified man suspected of burglary and outstanding warrants barricaded himself in an apartment for five hours on Monday before officers went into his home to get him out, according to the O.C. Register.

The incident began at about 1:30 p.m. at the 1900 block of Civic Center Drive, when police and probation officials went to the man’s apartment to serve him with a warrant regarding weapons and narcotics probation violations, according to the SAPD. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Continues Investigation Of Fatal Hit & Run Collision – Victim Identified

Victim: Juan Manuel Segura, (57) resident of Orange

On Sunday, September 10th, 2017 at 7:53 pm, officers responded to the intersection of Broadway and Borchard regarding a vehicle versus pedestrian collision with the pedestrian still trapped under a vehicle. OCFA responded to the scene and extracted the victim out from under the vehicle. The victim was later identified as Juan Manuel Segura, a 57-year old resident of Orange, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene reported a black pick-up truck, unknown make and model was possibly the suspect vehicle. That vehicle had been driving southbound on Broadway at Borchard when the victim was struck. The black truck fled the scene without stopping to render aid and identify themselves. The truck was last seen fleeing the scene southbound Broadway to eastbound on Edinger Ave out of sight. There should be damage from the collision to the left front portion of the suspect vehicle. A pedestrian was killed after being struck by two vehicles at S. Broadway and W. Borchard Ave.

An unidentified man died on Sunday evening after getting hit by a pickup truck and then run over by a second vehicle, according to the O.C. Register.

The SAPD got a call about a traffic collision on Sunday at about 7:53 p.m. The incident happened at the intersection of South Broadway and West Borchard Ave., according to the SAPD. Continue reading→

Location: 7-Eleven, 1020 S. Bristol St., Santa Ana, CA

On 8/25/2017, at 2:36 am, the suspect entered the 7-11 store several times and asked to use the phone. When asked to leave the store, the suspect became destructive. The suspect assaulted the clerk, pushed many of the items off the counter, and broke many of the front windows to the store. The suspect’s actions caused approximately $2,000 of damage to the store. Advisory: Santa Ana Police Department Begins Deployment of It’s Body Worn Camera Program

Starting on September 1, 2017, members of the Santa Ana Police Department patrol division will begin deploying the AXON body worn cameras as their latest piece of equipment. Additionally, members of the gang suppression unit, motorcycle officers and specialized uniformed officers will also be issued body worn cameras for daily use. Prior to implementing the body worn cameras, the Santa Ana Police Department conducted methodical research and analysis with respect to equipment, policy and procedures and best practices for the community, to include a pilot field deployment period. The Santa Ana Police Department also held community forums in which members of the community had the opportunity to provide input and address any questions and concerns prior to the implementation of this program. Jaime Orendain, a 34-year-old Santa Ana High School assistant wrestling coach accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old former student was released from jail Thursday when prosecutors declined to file charges against him, according to MynewsLA.com.

Apparetly the SAPD did not collect sufficient evidence against Orendain and will have to get back to work on building a case before prosecutors will consider filing charges. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Detectives Arrest Two Suspects In Attempt Murder Case – Looking For Additional Witnesses To The Crime

On Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at approximately 7:00 PM, the Santa Ana Police Department responded to a report of a fight/assault at the skate park located inside Centennial Park. Officers discovered an unresponsive adult male suffering from significant trauma to his face and head. Officers detained and arrested a suspect at the scene. A second suspect fled prior to the arrival of officers. Orange County Fire Authority Paramedics responded and medics transported the victim to a local trauma center where doctors performed life-saving surgery.
