The Santa Ana City Council wants a 700% raise but quibbles about a 5% raise for our veteran cops
The Santa Ana City Council, at their meeting last night, considered a proposal by Mayor Miguel Pulido to vie a 5% pay increase to experienced SAPD police officers who have been with the SAPD for more than 15 years. (Agenda item 85A).
Morale has been a real problem at the SAPD, due to their low staffing numbers and a lack of leadership from their inexperienced Police Chief, Carlos Rojas, as crime has spiraled out of control in our city. I would imagine that Pulido’s proposal is meant to keep our veteran police officers as many of them have been leaving the city for other police agencies – something that NEVER happened under former SAPD Police Chief Paul Walters. Are there enough FTP and pro-gang voters to save Roman Reyna in November?
When Santa Ana Ward 5 City Councilman Roman Reyna first ran for the Santa Ana City Council, way back in 2004, he was thoroughly spanked by City Council Member Claudia Alvarez, whose ballot title included “Deputy D.A.”
Alvarez trounced Reyna in that election by almost sixteen thousand votes, according to Smart Voter.
Now Reyna is once more staring down the barrel of a gun as a law enforcement officer with 26 years experience at the O.C. Sheriff’s Department, Juan Villegas, is running against him in the upcoming November Primary Election. Will Villegas’s title result in another lopsided loss for Reyna? Continue reading
An O.C. law enforcement officer is challenging Reyna in Ward 5 this November
Santa Ana’s Ward 5 City Councilman Roman Reyna voted against hiring more Santa Ana police officers this year – and when Reyna ran for Mayor a couple of years ago we caught him posing with a couple of members of the Mexican Mafia. Now the chickens have come home to roost for Reyna as Juan Villegas, an Orange County Law Enforcement Officer, has filed to run against him in Santa Ana’s Ward 5 this November.
Villegas openly addresses the alarming increase in crime here in Santa Ana during Reyna’s watch, on his campaign website. That is exactly the message that Santa Ana’s voters are looking for as folks are just fed up with the daily shootings and violence that have happened since Reyna joined with the others in the current City Council majority to dump our former Chief of Police, Paul Walters, and to get rid of the Santa Ana Police Department’s Gang Task Force.
