James Carroll, a 35-year-old man was arrested Monday after he ran from police and tried to hide in a helicopter at John Wayne Airport, in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

Two men, from Santa Ana and Garden Grove, and a 17-year-old boy from Westminster were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of committing two robberies minutes apart in Westminster, according to the O.C. Register.
The Westminster police responded at 6:30 p.m. to a report about a robbery in the 9800 block of Bolsa Avenue. A woman was allegedly robbed by three suspects, one of whom was armed with a gun. They took her purse.
Even as the police were investigating that robbery, the brazen trio committed another robbery, at the 14700 block of Bowling Green Street, where they reportedly hit a man on the head and took his property. Continue reading→
Two masked men carried out an armed robbery at a clothing store at South Coast Plaza, Zara, at about 10:15 p.m. on Friday night, according to the OC Register.
Employees were held at gunpoint by at least two male suspects. The robbers not only took cash from the registers and a safe, they also took personal items from the employees. Continue reading→
Samuel Elijah Alvarez, an 18-year-old man wanted in connection with the beating of a 72-year-old grandfather with a baseball bat, walked into the Santa Ana Police Department’s lobby and surrendered on Thursday, according to the SAPD.
The SAPd is investigating this crime as an attempted homicide.
Alvarez showed up at the SAPD’s lobby with his lawyer when he turned himself in, just after 2 p.m. today.

The victim, Jose Chacon, a Santa Ana resident, was at the 76 gas station at the 4500 block of Westminster Avenue, when he left the gas station’s mini-mart, tripped, and fell on top of Alvarez’s car. Alvarez then got out of his car and began to argue with Chacon. Continue reading→
What started out as yet another Santa Ana car theft quickly escalated this afternoon, after several suspects in a stolen car took off when police tried to conduct a traffic stop, at 4:40 p.m. at West 15th and North Durant streets, not far from Willard Elementary School according to the O.C. Register.
When the suspects sped off the police gave chase, to 3rd and Main Streets, where the suspects crashed their stolen Camry into a curb and they may have also hit an electrical box. Continue reading→
A group of half-a-dozen losers were arrested today in Garden Grove after police officers spotted a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle connected to a tagging incident on Saturday afternoon, at 3:50 p.m., at the Staples Store on Harbor Blvd., according to the O.C. Register.
The suspects turned out to be wanted in connection with a series of robberies in Santa Ana and in Garden Grove.
The suspects were pulled over and arrested at the 13000 block of Roan Road, in Garden Grove. The suspects included five adults and a juvenile. Continue reading→
There is an effort underway by Rock Solid Recovery to convert the Mauna Loa Garden Apartments in Santa Ana to a 60 unit residential development to a behavioral health facility – essentially a drug rehab center, at 1311 Washington Place, in Santa Ana, just south of the Target store located at N. Grand Ave. and 17th. St.
This proposed drug rehab center will be located a half mile south of Sierra Intermediate School and the adjacent Northeast Santa Ana Little League.

Ulises Mendoza, a Santa Ana man who crashed while driving under the influence, leaving a passenger dead and three others seriously injured, was sentenced Friday to three years in prison, according to the O.C. Register.

Demarrea Chante Barnes, 29, pleaded guilty today to one felony count of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, one felony count of elder and dependent adult abuse, a sentencing enhancement for great bodily injury, and three state prison priors for drug possession in 2005 and 2008, and assault on a peace officer with injury in 2012. Update on Jail Escape Investigation
SANTA ANA, Calif. (February 4, 2016) – The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has initiated an internal administrative investigation into the circumstances of the jail escape in January of 2016 involving inmates Bac Duong, Hossein Nayeri, and Jonathan Tieu from the Central Men’s Jail.
“I have been very clear from the onset of the jail escape investigation that I am deeply concerned about the length of time it took to recognize that three maximum security inmates were unaccounted for,” said Sheriff Sandra Hutchens. “I have initiated an internal administrative investigation to determine the facts of what occurred, contributing factors to the escape and inmate count procedures. Until the investigation is complete, I am unable to discuss it further. Please know that we have taken immediate action to ensure that this situation will not happen again. Advisory – UPDATE: SAPD Robbery Detectives Arrest Suspect In Series Of 7-11 Robberies
Arrested: Hernan Sanchez (25) Placentia, Booked on Charges of Robbery (2)
On 01/28/2016, based on information obtained from community members seeing the media stories and based on a tip received from Orange County Crime Stoppers, SAPD Detectives were able to identify, locate and arrest Hernan Sanchez at his place of employment. Detectives believe Sanchez is responsible for a series of robberies that took place at multiple 7-Eleven locations throughout Orange & Los Angeles Counties dating back to September of 2015. Sanchez has been positively identified in two Santa Ana cases. Sanchez was booked into the SAPD Jail and is being held on $100,000 bail. Continue reading→
Orange County Sheriff’s Capt. Jeff Hallock revealed at a press conference today that a Santa Ana taxi driver was kidnapped at gunpoint and forced to transport three escapees from the Orange County Jail for several days during which two of the fugitives argued about killing him and burying his body, according to the OC Register.
When the escaped convicts, Hossein Nayeri, 37, Jonathan Tieu, 20 and Bac Duong, 43, fled from the Orange County Central Men’s Jail, after rappelling from a rooftop five stories above the street level, on Jan. 22, just after 5 a.m., they were driven to residences in Westminster, Huntington Beach and Santa Ana, where family and friends gave them money. A man named Loc Ba Nguyen has been arrrsted and charged with smuggling tools into the Orange County Jail that helped three inmates escape on Jan. 22, according to the OC Register.
Nguyen is looking at a possible sentence of five years and four months in a state prison for smuggling the tools. Continue reading→
