January was a bad month for O.C. Sheriff Sandra Hutchens. Not only did three inmates escape from the O.C. Central Men’s Jail – a Deputy Sheriff also left an AR-15 rifle on the trunk of his car and drove off. That weapon has still not been recovered.

It is hard to fathom how much crime happens in Santa Ana on a regular basis. There were 538 crimes reported in our city this week, from Monday, January 25, 2016 through today, by CrimeMapping.
The crimes included 12 Assaults with Deadly Weapons and Shootings at Occupied Dwellings:
The two escapees from the Orange County Jail that were still at large have been arrested by the San Francisco Police Department, according to the Orange County Sheriff Department’s Twitter page.

One of the inmates who escaped last week from the Orange County Men’s Central Jail, Bac Duong, turned himself in this morning, according to the O.C. Register.
Duong, who is 43 years old, was arrested just before noon today near the Auto Electric Rebuilders shop at 1421 N. Harbor Blvd., in Santa Ana, after he got in touch with a woman in Santa Ana.
Duong apparently approached a passerby on the street and said that he wanted to turn himself in. Continue reading→
Nooshafarian Ravaghi, 44, of Lake Forest, an English as a Second Language teacher from the Rancho Santiago Community College District who worked in the OC Central Men’s Jail has been arrested, according to the O.C. Register.
Ravaghi allegedly helped the three escaped inmates – Hossein Nayeri, Jonathan Tieu and Bac Duong to escape by providing them with Google Maps and in other ways not yet disclosed by the OC Sheriff.
The motive? Apparently Ravaghi and Nayeri exceeded their student-teacher association as they developed what has been described as a “closer relationship.” Continue reading→
The SAPD arrested a woman this morning on suspicion of making terrorist threats toward a security guard outside the Social Security Administration office, according to the O.C. Register.
The SAPD received calls about the woman’s actions this morning and responded at about 9:15 a.m. to the Social Security Administration branch that is located on the fifth floor of 1851 E. 1st St.
The suspect, whose name was not revealed by the SAPD, appears to have walked up to the fifth floor before she started berating the security officer, who was by himself. Continue reading→

The Santa Ana Police Department is seeking the public’s help identifying the person responsible for committing two sexual batteries in the area of McFadden Avenue and Raitt Street in Santa Ana. The first assault occurred on September 4th, 2015, and the second occurred on January 1st, 2016. The assaults have taken place between the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. Continue reading→
A woman set a small fire inside the Walmart in Santa Ana back on Oct. 4, of last year, at about 6 pm., according to the O.C. Register.
Now the Orange County Fire Authority is asking the public to help identify the woman, based on a few pictures of the suspect that were taken from the store’s security camera footage. Continue reading→
You might have noticed a lot of police activity in Santa Ana today. Apparently the OC Sheriff’s Department arrested five people today in connection with the three violent inmates who escaped from the Orange County Men’s Central Jail, in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
Sheriff Sandra Hutchens said that the five people who were arrested today helped the escapees in some undetermined fashion. They may have been involved in helping to smuggle the cutting tools used in the escape into the jail. Continue reading→
Supervisors Increase Reward for Information on Jail Escapees
The Orange County Board of Supervisors approved increasing the reward for information leading to the apprehension of three escaped inmates from the Orange County Men’s Central Jail to a total of $200,000.
Board members unanimously approved adding up to $50,000 each for information leading to the capture of inmates Hossein Nayeri, 37; Jonathan Tieu, 20; and Bac Duong, 43, who escaped from the jail sometime on Friday, January 22, 2016. The U.S. Marshals Service already has pledged $10,000 each for information on the three inmates while the Federal Bureau of Investigation contributed another $20,000. Continue reading→
A bomb scare has resulted in the closure of all lanes on North Grand Avenue between Santa Ana Boulevard and Seventeenth Street while Orange County Sheriff’s Department officials check out the threat, according to the O.C. Register.
As if Santa Ana was not on edge already with three escaped violent convicts on the loose!

Andrew Michael Meteau, 29, Pomona, pleaded guilty Jan. 22, 2016, to one felony count of conspiracy to commit pimping, and one felony count of carrying a loaded firearm in public with a prior conviction and sentencing enhancements for four prior felony convictions for possession of methamphetamine in 2008 in San Bernardino County, possession of a controlled substance in 2010 in Nevada, carrying a loaded firearm in public in 2005 in Los Angeles County and possession of a firearm by a felon in 2012 in San Bernardino County and not remaining free for a period of five years of both prison custody and the commission of his four prior felonies. THREE DEFENDANTS CHARGED WITH ESCAPING FROM ORANGE COUNTY JAIL
SANTA ANA, Calif. – Three previously charged defendants were charged today for escaping from Orange County Jail. Bac Tien Duong, 43, Hossein Nayeri, 37, Newport Beach, and Jonathan Tieu, 20, Fountain Valley, are each charged with one felony count of escape from pending felony charges. Duong faces also faces sentencing enhancements for a prior strike conviction for first degree burglary in 1995 in San Diego County, prior prison convictions for second degree burglary in 2007, reckless evading of a peace officer in 2008, and possession for sale of a controlled substance in 2011.
If convicted, Nayeri and Tieu face a maximum sentence of three years in state prison for this case. Duong faces a maximum sentence of nine years in state prison for this case. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD investigates fatal hit and run
Narrative: On Sunday, January 24th, 2016 at 1806 hours, patrol officers along with the Orange County Fire Authority responded to a report of a pedestrian down in the area of Fairview and Edinger. An unidentified male subject who had been struck by a vehicle was located lying on the roadway in the area of 1200 S. Fairview. The subject succumbed to critical injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The unknown driver and vehicle had fled the scene.
Based on evidence and the scene, it appears the male pedestrian was walking across Fairview Street west to east in the area of the intersection at Dahl Lane when he was struck by a vehicle driving south on Fairview. Continue reading→
The U.S. Marshals Service has kicked in an additional $30,000 in addition to the $20,000 already offered by the FBI for information leading to the re-arrest of Hossein Nayeri, Jonathan Tieu and Bac Duong, according to the O.C. Register.
