The SAPD arrested Demarrea Chante Barnes, 29, in Anaheim today as a suspect in the horrific beating of an 83-year-old man, Tuyen Nguyen, in Santa Ana at about 6:10 a.m. in the 5000 block of West Edinger Ave., in Santa Ana, according to ABC News.
Barnes is believed he is a transient.
Nguyen was on his daily walk to get a newspaper and coffee at a Santa Ana restaurant when he was attacked with no warning in the parking lot. Fortunately the attack was caught on surveillance video. Continue reading

On 9-25-2015 at 0610 am, an 83 yr. old male victim pulled into the parking lot at 5015 W. Edinger and exited his vehicle. After exiting his vehicle, the victim was attacked without provocation by the suspect (Described as a M/B, 5-10/160, 40-50 yrs., unshaven, wearing a gray long sleeve shirt or black sweater).
The suspect punched and kicked the victim multiple times knocking him to the ground. The victim sustained injuries requiring treatment at a local hospital where he remains. Continue reading
A man was stabbed in the chest late on Thursday night, at around 10:25 p.m., at the Los Cristales bar, located at 1638 S Standard Ave., in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
Apparently the man got into an argument with another man. The two stepped outside to continue their fight and then one man stabbed the other in the chest, with a knife, according to the SAPD.
The stabber took off on foot and was not seen again while the victim was taken to a local hospital. The victim is expected to survive. His identity was not revealed by the police. Continue reading
A Santa Ana gang member was shot in the leg Thursday at 5:15 p.m. at McFadden Ave. and South Toland St., according to the O.C. Register.
The victim was walking by himself when three or four gang members got out of a car to confront him. After exchanging a few words the suspects all pulled out handguns and fired several shots at the victim. Continue reading

Alejandro Rivas, a 20-year-old resident of Orange, who is suspected in the hit-and-run death of Augustin Sosa, a 25-year-old tree trimmer, in Santa Ana on Sep. 18, was arrested early this morning by the SAPD. He had had outstanding warrants including one for a probation violation, according to the O.C. Register.
Sosa, a resident of Santa Ana, was struck and killed near 17th Street and Fairview Avenue when he was putting cones down in the street. He worked for West Coast Arborists, which is reportedly contracted by the City of Santa Ana. Sosa died at the scene after he was flung some fifty feet by the impact of the suspect’s vehicle. His identity was later identified by the Orange County Coroner. Continue reading
A male teen who appeared to be 17 or 18 years old was shot in the lower back today at about 7:45 p.m. at the 700 block of North Lacy Street, according to the O.C. Register.
The victim was walking nearby on Civic Center Drive when multiple shots were fired from a passing vehicle. The SAPD suspects the shooting was possibly a gang-related attack. Continue reading
Two men and a teenage girl were shot in their legs Sunday night at around 10:30 pm., while they were inside a home’s garage in the 1600 block of South Ivanhoe Street, in Anaheim, near James Madison Elementary School, according to the O.C. Register.
The attack appeared to be unprovoked, according to Anaheim Police.
The victims told police that a person walked up to the garage, which had a partially opened door, and began firing a gun at the trio. Continue reading
An 18-year-old Latino was shot on Saturday night, at around 8:38 pm, in the 300 block of South Birch St., in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register. The SAPD described the incident as a possible drive-by shooting.
SAPD police officers found the victim in an alley and he was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center, where he was in stable condition. Continue reading
A pedestrian, Agustin Perez-Sosa, a 25-year-old resident of Santa Ana, was struck and killed by a silver Chevy Malibu today at around 1:25 p.m., near Seventeenth and Fairview Ave., in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
Perez-Sosa was was flung 50 feet in the air, according to ABC News. The driver of the Malibu fled the scene.
The victim was a tree trimmer who was picking up cones along the side of the street, according to ABC News. He was in his second year of employment at West Coast Arborists, which is reportedly contracted by the City of Santa Ana. He is survived by his wive and a 10-year-old daughter. Continue reading
A man who admitted to being a gang member was shot at around 5:30 p.m. yesterday at the 3500 block of South Fairview Street, in Santa Ana, in what the SAPD believes was a gang-related attack, according to the O.C. Register.
When the police arrived at the scene the shooting victim was gone however a few hours later the Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center contacted the police to report that they were treating a man with a gunshot wound to his right thigh. Continue reading

On 9/16/15, Santa Ana Police Department Family Crimes Detectives arrested Tommy Medina for sexually assaulting two girls under 10-years-old while he was employed as a dental assistant. Medina, 25, of Santa Ana, was arrested from his place of employment, OC Kids Dental, 630 S. Main Street, Unit #C, in Santa Ana.
It is alleged Medina, while working as a dental assistant, sexually assaulted two female victims while in a private room at the dental facility. One of the victims was assaulted in 2013 and the other in 2014. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A registered sex offender was convicted today for the special circumstances murder of a 29-year-old woman in the course of sexually assaulting her in a Stanton motel room. Charles Patrick Drew, 65, transient, was found guilty by a jury of one felony count of special circumstances murder in the commission of rape, sodomy, oral copulation, and sexual penetration by foreign object, one felony count each of rape of an unconscious person, sodomy of unconscious victim, oral copulation of unconscious person, sexual penetration by foreign object of unconscious victim, and aggravated assault. Drew faces a minimum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole. SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man is scheduled to be arraigned today for murdering a woman by intentionally driving his minivan into her and also injuring her boyfriend. Nelson Ward, 60, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of murder and one felony count of assault with a deadly weapon. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 28 years to life in state prison. Ward is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department CJ-1, Central Jail Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.
On Sept. 12, 2015, Ward is accused of meeting 32-year-old Jessica Lynn Brown Carvajal and her boyfriend 51-year-old Robert Shore in Buena Park. The defendant is accused of inviting Carvajal and her boyfriend into his van and spending the day driving around to various locations and drinking alcohol. At some point during the day, the defendant is accused of sleeping in the back of his van and giving John Doe permission to drive while Carvajal was sitting in the passenger seat. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man is scheduled to face trial tomorrow for the murder of one woman and attempted murder of a female bystander. Co-defendant Irvin Tellez, 27, Garden Grove, is charged with one felony count each of murder and attempted murder, with sentencing enhancements for the personal discharge of a firearm causing death, personal discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury, and great bodily injury. If convicted, Tellez faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison. Opening statements are scheduled to begin tomorrow, Sept. 15, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-30, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
Co-defendant Jaime Prieto Rocha, 42, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty Sept. 4, 2015, to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter with a sentencing enhancement for criminal street gang activity.
