Santa Ana residents got a late Christmas present today as our overpaid and oversexed City Manager, David Cavazos, was placed on paid administrative leave after a 4-0 City Council vote Wednesday afternoon, according to the O.C. Register.
As one might expect Cavazos’ allies on the City Council – Sal Tinajero, David Benavides and Vince Sarmiento, complained about this because they were not at today’s special meeting. While the Democrats are completely stunned this morning by the loss of the White House to Donald Trump here in Santa Ana another big upset has occurred as our embattled Mayor, Miguel Pulido, has not only won his reelection campaign – he now has regained control of the Santa Ana City Council.
The election last night of Jose Solorio in Ward 3 and Juan Villegas in Ward 5 has given Pulido a firm City Council majority as he can now count on Mayor Pro Tem Vince Sarmiento in Ward 1 as well. Sarmiento owes Pulido a huge debt as there is no doubt that Sarmiento only survived his battle against Jessica Cha because of Pulido’s support. Continue reading
A Latino in his 30s was shot dead by Santa Ana police during a Sunday night altercation that also injured an officer, according to the O.C. Register.
SAPD police officers in a patrol car found the man in a parked, white truck in the parking lot of a strip mall on Edinger Avenue and Sullivan Street at about 11:30 Sunday night, according to the SAPD. Continue reading

Vincent Sarmiento
Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Vince Sarmiento, in typical fashion, now wants us to believe that he is opposed to the ridiculous Measure PP – the lame ballot measure that is designed to give the Santa Ana City Council Members a 700% raise. The measure was born out of a desire by the Council majority to help Council Member Roman Reyna pay his bills, as he can’t hold a steady job. And as a high school dropout with no discernible skills, Reyna can’t find a good job to begin with.
The problem with Sarmiento’s flip-flopping is that we have a public record to turn to – the minutes of the July 5, 2016 City Council meeting where Sarmiento not only voted to place Measure PP on the ballot – he also praised the measure.

Last night at about 10:30 p.m. a shooting occurred at 800 S. Townsend, in Santa Ana, according to SAPD Case Number 16-24254.
A family, including two adults and two children, was driving in the area when they heard a gunshot. Immediately afterwards, the front passenger window of their vehicle shattered. Fortunately no one was hit. Continue reading

I had a chance to see Santa Ana Ward 3 City Council candidate Ana Urzua Alcaraz in action at last night’s Com Link Candidates Forum. She was squeezed between a big pile of male Ward 3 candidates but Alcaraz managed to stand out in the crowd.
I have been involved in Santa Ana politics for a very long time but I don’t recall any candidate quite like Urzua Alcaraz. While she is young and very attractive she is also smart as a whip – and she’s friendly. She knows how to work an audience. Continue reading
Santa Ana City Councilman Roman Reyna must be in full panic mode by now. Reyna is running for reelection in November, but this time he is facing a 25-year member of law enforcement, Juan Villegas. Do you remember what happened to Reyna the last time he ran against someone in law enforcement?
Reyna got his butt kicked in 2004 by Claudia Alvarez, a Deputy O.C. District Attorney, when they faced off in that year’s Ward 5 election. Alvarez thoroughly trounced Reyna by over 16,000 votes, according to Smart Voter. Continue reading
Police arrested an unknown man after chasing a stolen vehicle through the city on Saturday afternoon, according to the O.C. Register.
The Santa Ana Police Department received a call from the car’s owner at 3:53 p.m. today. The owner had spotted a suspect driving his stolen car near Fairview Street and Trask Avenue, according to the SAPD. Continue reading
The SAPD are hunting for a male suspect in his mid-20’s who took off after trying to cash a fake check yesterday, at a business located in the 1200 block of West Warner Ave., according to the O.C. Register.
The SAPD received a call about the suspect at about 5:54 p.m. Before the police arrived the suspect left the unidentified place of business and fled in a vehicle where a male driver and a female passenger were waiting. Continue reading
Our readers alerted us that there was a major SAPD police response yesterday in central Santa Ana. It turned out to be a police pursuit of a suspect who stole a vehicle.
That suspect, an unidentified man in his mid-20’s, was spotted at about 4:15 p.m. in a stolen vehicle near Flower and First St., by SAPD police. A police helicopter then followed the car until the suspect crashed it into a parked vehicle at the 500 block of South Poplar St., according to the O.C. Register. Continue reading
Yet another shooting in Santa Ana has been reported. This one occurred early this morning at approximately 3 a.m., in the 800 S. Townsend block.
The victim reported hearing several shots fired in the immediate area. He later discovered a bullet hole in his bedroom window. Continue reading
Two USPS packages were taken from a front porch on Thursday, Sep. 1, 2016, at 11:08 a.m. in the Metro Classic Neighborhood (Bear and Segerstrom), in Santa Ana. Other homes in the neighborhood may have been hit too. Security camera footage showed that USPS came at 10:38 a.m. and the robbery suspect came almost a half hour later.
The suspect is a male Hispanic, in his mid 20’s, with a medium build, short beard, and bald or very short hair, with a dark colored T-Shirt with a big graphic on the front, black shorts hanging below the knees, and brown boots or high tops. Continue reading
Santa Ana City Council Member David Benavides apparently called the SAPD to report shots fired in the area of 700 S. Townsend, at Monte Vista, on Sunday, 8/28/16 at about 11:30 PM.
Benavides told the police that he heard three shots fired and a vehicle leaving the area. SAPD police officers responded to the area and conducted an area check through Townsend St. from Monte Vista to McFadden and the surrounding alleys. The officers were unable to locate a crime scene, victims or any suspects at this time. Continue reading
