The Sacramento Democrats are looking forward to punking the OC GOP
The OC GOP’s Chairman, Fred Whitaker celebrated the Republican takeover of the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) that took place this week when Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido, a moderate Democrat, was replaced by Lake Forest Councilman Dwight Robinson, a Republican.
But Whitaker’s celebration might be very short lived. A well-placed source told me today that the Democrats in Sacramento are livid about the GOP’s shenanigans – which were engineered, allegedly, by none other than former Anaheim Mayor, turned lobbyist, Curt Pringle , on behalf of the oil industry. Concerned residents convinced the Garden Grove City Council, at their meeting tonight, to oppose the Orange County Vector Control District’s plans to conduct aerial spraying of mosquito poison over our homes. The Garden Grove City Council is sending a letter to the Vector Control District asking them to delay the spraying and hold public hearings, according to KCBS News.
A Facebook group committed to stopping the spraying now has over 1,500 members. Click here to join. Many of these concerned residents protested at the offices of the Vector Control District, in Garden Grove, today.
As usual the Vector Control District is trying to scare us but the reality is that this spraying is not necessary. They are doing it to justify their budget and their continued pilfering of our property tax dollars. Continue reading
A Residential No-Burn Alert has been declared for Central Orange-2, CA, on Sunday, Jan 18
The South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) has declared a Residential No-Burn Day in your area.
Residents in your area are prohibited from burning wood or manufactured fire logs in indoor and outdoor residential wood burning fireplaces and stoves due to elevated fine particulate levels forecast by the SCAQMD.
The Orange County Environmental Health Division is offering free training to Santa Ana business owners and operators. This agency regulates businesses that use or store hazardous materials at their facilities. These businesses include gas stations, auto repair shops, dry cleaners, manufacturing facilities (and any other type of industry where hazardous liquids, solids or compressed gases are used/stored).
They are required to submit a Hazardous Material Disclosure and Business Emergency Plan annually. Historically, these documents would have been submitted to Santa Ana Fire (then the Orange County Fire Authority). There have been many changes in the past couple of years and now the OC Health Care Agency implements these programs.
The OC Health Care Agency will be hosting free workshops in Santa Ana, on September 9, 2014, for business owners and operators to help them navigate the complex requirements associated with the hazardous materials forms and underground storage tank programs. Continue reading
