On Saturday 03/17/18 at 0240 hours, officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision at 600 W. Santa Clara Ave.
Based on the investigation, a silver Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on Santa Clara Av. from Heliotrope Av. when the driver veered off the roadway and struck a tree located on the south side of the street. Continue reading
I get a little tired about the constant bashing of Santa Ana. Yes the ongoing gang war sucks but there is still a lot to love about our city, such as:
$3 movies at the MainPlace Mall
When a new movie comes out my kids and I will quickly label it as either a “must-see” or a “$3 movie.” Most films are in the latter category (and a lot of them end up on our Redbox and Netflix list). While I would love it if there was a first run movie theater in Santa Ana I really like being able to go to the Picture Show at the MainPlace Mall to see movies that have been out for a few weeks, if not months, for only $3 (and only $2 on Tuesdays).
The MainPlace Mall
I really dislike South Coast Plaza. Who can afford what the stores there have to offer? But the MainPlace Mall is just the ticket with a decent array of stores and anchors and a great food selection that now includes wood-fired pizza at Blaze Pizza and bbq ribs at the new Lucille’s. There is ample parking and two frozen yogurt places – plus my eye doctor. The previous owners of the MainPlace Mall, Westfield, just sold the shopping center to a group of developers. Neighbors in north Santa Ana’s Floral Park and Park Santiago neighborhoods have been buzzing about an increase in burglaries in their areas over the past few weeks. This comes just after the Santa Ana police officers got a new contract and, I am told, that the City Council has extended an offer to their current Temp Chief of Police, Carlos Rojas.
The City of Santa Ana generally looks out for these neighborhoods as they are filled with VIPs, including Mayor Miguel Pulido, who lives in Floral Park, and Parks and Agency Director Gerardo Mouet, who lives in Park Santiago.
One suspected burglar, pictured above, has been seen zipping around Park Santiago on a motor bike and he was even followed by a resident, who asked him if he lives here. He threatened to call the police but left after the concerned resident invited him to do so. Continue reading

FLORAL PARK ANNOUNCES 21st ANNUAL HOME & GARDEN TOUR
SANTA ANA, CA, February 1, 2013 – The Floral Park Neighborhood Association (FPNA), located in historic North Santa Ana, will be celebrating its 21st annual Home & Garden Tour on April 27-28, 2013. “More than $9 million of federal dollars will be spent to add 28 crucial miles of bike lanes and trails in Orange County, an effort to better connect the region’s bikeway system,” according to the O.C. Register.
That is great news, and Santa Ana will draw some benefit from this expenditure, with new bikeways along 1st St., Chestnut Ave. and Newhope St., and new bike crossings along the Maple Bike Trail.
However there will be no money to complete the Santiago Creek bike trail, which abruptly ends after you pass the MainPlace Mall/5 Fwy. overpass. Read more about that here and here. Continue reading
John and Ann Coil, Floral Park residents, are hosting a signature gathering and kick-off party for Charles Hart, a Republican who is running for Santa Ana City Council, on Monday, July 16.
Hart is running for Ward 3, which is currently held by Council Member Carlos Bustamante, who was recently arrested after being charged with several felony sex crimes and public theft. Bustamante is a former Orange County middle manager and Hart is currently an Orange County middle manager.
Hart has apparently just pulled his Council nomination papers, and the Coils are holding a meeting in order to gather the 20 signatures he needs in order to run for the City Council. Continue reading
The pathetic NIMBY’s who oppose completing the Santiago Creek bike trail have been caught on film and the results are hilarious. What is not funny is their insistence on forcing bicyclists onto dangerous city streets instead of finishing the segment of the Santiago Creek bike trail that extends briefly through the Floral Park and Fisher Park portion of the creek.
