Gourmet mini burger restaurant opening in May across from the MainPlace Mall

Remember the restaurant formerly known as Pat & Oscar’s that has been vacant for some time, at the shopping center across from the MainPlace Mall? Well the landlord finally found a new tenant – Burgerim, a mini-burger chain that started in Tel Aviv, Israel, according to the O.C. Register.

Burgerim is an international fast casual burger franchise that sells gourmet mini burgers. You can choose from a twin, trio, or party pack (16) of their 2.8oz mini burgers and customize each one. They offer “tons of variety in patty flavors, buns, unconventional toppings, and savory sauces,” according to their website. Continue reading→

Burritos La Palma is opening a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Santa Ana at 410 N. Bristol St., on the corner of N. Bristol St. and Santa Ana Blvd., in mid-February, according to the OC Weekly.

Olive Garden is leaving the MainPlace Mall and moving to the City Place

The MainPlace Mall took two more hits this week as Olive Garden announced that they are closing the restaurant they have had at that mall for over 25 years, and the clothing store Chico’s also closed down this week, according to the O.C. Register.

The good news is that the Olive Garden is staying in Santa Ana – they are literally moving across the street from the MainPlace Mall to the City Place, where they are taking over the vacancy that was left when McCormick & Schmick’s closed that location five years ago. Continue reading→

Food at L.A. Biriyani in Santa Ana

L.A. Biryani has taken over the space Bella Marri’s vacated when it closed in August in Santa Ana. The Indian restaurant specializes in biryani made with chicken and lamb, but also offers a so-called Hollywood Rice Bowl with “fried chicken over pilaf rice with red salsa”. Beers on tap include Kingfisher, according to the OC Weekly.

Biryani (pronounced [bɪr.jaːniː]), also known as biriyani or biriani, is an South Asian mixed rice dish with its origins among the Muslims of the Medieval Indian subcontinent.[1][2][3][4] It is popular throughout the subcontinent and among the diaspora from the region. Habitat for Humanity of Orange County’s ReStore (Habitat OC ReStore) locations in Anaheim and Santa Ana are partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County for the seventh annual year. The Habitat OC ReStores will be drop-off locations for the holiday food drive from Saturday, November 19, to Friday, December 23. Those who participate will receive a Habitat OC ReStore discount coupon each time they donate a minimum of three cans or packages of nonperishable food items. The public is encouraged to participate each week to increase their savings at the Habitat OC ReStores and to help end hunger in Orange County.

The City of Santa Ana’s 38th annual Fiestas Patrias Festival is taking place on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11, 2016. The festivities begin at 12:00 p.m. each day on Fourth Street in historic Downtown. This annual tradition celebrates Santa Ana’s vibrant Mexican culture with A-list performers each night, delicious food, affordable shopping, interactive activities, and exciting carnival rides for children of all ages. The Festival will also include the Plaza de la Cultural, a visual art display commemorating some of Mexico’s most notable heroes, as well as a beer garden open for adults only to enjoy.

On Saturday, September 10, Latin Grammy award winner Ana Barbara will be gracing the festival’s main stage. Ana Barbara has become a prominent figure within Latin entertainment since her professional debut in 1994 and is among one of the leading female figures in regional Mexican music.
