Correa to host free 2011 income tax prep event on April 3

(SANTA ANA, CA) — State Senator Lou Correa and State Controller John Chiang are partnering with Cal State University, Fullerton (CSUF), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and the OC Financial Stability Alliance to provide free 2011 income tax preparation assistance.

The tax assistance workshop will take place on Tuesday, April 3rd from 1:00 to 4:00pm at the CSUF Garden Grove Campus in Room 150, 12901 Euclid Street, Garden Grove, CA 92840.

“Filing taxes can be a confusing and time consuming process, leaving many people at a loss for what to do,” said Senator Correa. “So many of our families need assistance filing taxes in order to get a tax refund, which is money that returns directly to our communities and supports the local economy. Because of the current economic conditions, it is important that we ensure hardworking taxpayers have access to free tax preparation services and receive the benefits they deserve.” Continue reading→

Are you ready for a free MMA-inspired clinic, right here in Santa Ana?

Fighting for Fitness is an Orange County-based 501c(3) non-profit organization which is hosting a free MMA-inspired fitness clinic for children ages seven to 17 at Roosevelt Elementary School in Santa Ana. The event is open to the public and takes place Sunday, March 25. Registration is 11-12 p.m., clinic 12-1 p.m., and refreshments 1-2 p.m.

Movie on the Lawn Series Begins This Weekend Featuring ‘How to Train Your Dragon’

IRVINE – It’s time to bring out your blanket and lawn chair for the Great Park Movie on the Lawn this Saturday, April 2, featuring the animated movie How to Train Your Dragon (PG).

At 8 p.m., giant outdoor screen will show the incredible story of a hapless teenage Viking who aspires to hunt dragons, but ends up the unlikely friend of a young dragon. Admission and parking are free, and visitors should bring blankets and/or lawn chairs for sitting on the lawn. Warm clothing is recommended, and visitors are welcome to bring picnics and movie snacks.

Future movies are planned for May 7 and June 4. Also this weekend, bring your guitar for free lessons on Sunday, April 3, at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Visitors can also enjoy the Great Park Farmers Market on Sunday, with locally-grown produce, artisan wares and gourmet food trucks.

About the Great Park

The Orange County Great Park, with its 1,347-acre master plan, is the focal point of the redevelopment of the publicly-owned portion of the 4,700-acre former Marine Corps Air Station, El Toro. The Great Park is currently 27.5 acres and includes an iconic tethered helium balloon that rises 400 feet in the air, providing an aerial view of Park development. A $70 million development plan to expand the Park to more than 200 acres is currently underway. The plan will build out a core section of the Park for the most immediate and wide-ranging public benefit, including the initial components of the sports park, a 114-acre agricultural area, and an art and culture exhibition space. AltaMed offers free flu shots to keep families healthy.

Tuesday, November 23rd, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Northgate Market, located at 230 N. Harbor Blvd., Santa Ana, CA 92703 (OCTA Bus #43).

AltaMed, a non-profit health care organization, is hosting free flu clinics so families can stay healthy during this flu season. This year’s seasonal flu shot includes the H1N1 vaccine.

During the free flu shot clinics, families can learn more about AltaMed’s programs and services, receive health insurance enrollment assistance, health tips and advice on when to use emergency rooms.

Families will also have the opportunity to enter into raffles and win prizes at select locations.

Santa Ana Zoo free to Santa Ana residents this Sunday, Sep. 19

After you finish celebrating Mexican Independence this weekend at Santa Ana’s Fiestas Patrias, come on down to the Santa Ana Zoo, at Prentice Park.  Santa Ana residents get in FREE this Sunday, Sep. 19.

Be sure to check out the new Tierra de las Pampas exhibit, that celebrates and preserves animals from one of the most highly endangered habitats in the world, in South America.

General admission is normally $8.00, Children 3-12 & seniors are $5.00.

The Santa Ana Zoo is located at Prentice Park, at 1801 E. Chestnut, Santa Ana.  The Zoo displays over 300 animals from around the world on 21 acres. Open daily from 10am to 4pm, once inside, one can remain until 5pm.

California Friendly Landscape training class in Santa Ana on Sep. 18

The City of Santa Ana is hosting a free California Friendly Landscape Training Class on September 18.  The free class will focus on conserving water, drought tolerant landscape materials, durable landscaping, low maintenance, and affordable.

The class will be held at the Santa Ana Corporate Yard   (220 S. Daisy Avenue)  beginning at 9 am and running for approximately 4 hours. There are three different dates that you may attend including 9/18, 10/16 and 11/20.

Free classes on how to develop a successful business start in Santa Ana on Aug. 24

The National Hispanic Women’s Association is presenting five classes in Spanish on how to develop a successful business.  The classes start on August 24 and conclude on September 14.  There is no cost and the materials and refreshments will be provided free of charge as well.

The classes will be held at the Rancho Santiago Community College District’s building, at 2323 N. Broadway, in the Board Room (#107), in Santa Ana.
