The St. Baldrick’s Foundation sponsors head-shaving events around the world by asking the simple question: How much money would you donate to conquer kids’ cancers to see me shave my head? Volunteer barbers donate their time and participants raise funds and then sit back and have their heads shaved in solidarity with kids who have been diagnosed with cancer. The money raised goes towards grants given to doctors and scientists who are dedicated to finding cures and treatments for infants, children, and young adults who have been diagnosed with cancer. Eric M. Alderete Widens His Substantial Fundraising Lead Among All Ward 3 Candidates
Santa Ana, CA – Chairman of the Santa Ana Planning Commission and candidate for Santa Ana City Council (Ward 3), Eric M. Alderete widened his substantial fundraising lead over all Ward 3 candidates. For the most recent reporting period from July 1, 2012 to September 30, 2012, Alderete raised $50,962 which is more than double the amount his closest competitor race raised. UPDATE: Supervisor Janet Nguyen may be up to her old tricks again. In the past she has used anonymous surrogates to do her dirty work, including buying URLs similar to those used by her political opponents, and redirecting them to nasty sites. Now an anonymous letter has been sent to the CalOptima board of directors Thursday accuses two board members — Chairman Ed Kacic and Mary Anne Foo — of improprieties, allegations both strongly denied, according to the Voice of OC. And it turns out that Kacis is only trying to help the community:
Kacic, president of the Irvine Health Foundation, said his organization belongs to the Managed System of Care, a group that includes the CEOs of all Orange County hospitals, the county Health Care Agency, the Veterans Administration, CalOptima, clinics, major medical groups and business interests.
The campaign finance reports are in, and the top fundraiser, of the four Democrats running for the 69th Assembly District, is Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez. You can read her report here.
Ultra-liberal union shill Julio Perez came in at 117K and 70K cash at-hand. If you subtract the $23K which he reported in the last reporting period, which was from Jan to June 2011, the he only raised $90K. Click here to read his campaign finance report.
O.C. Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly only raised $54K. It looks like his past supporters are realizing he isn’t running much of a campaign – and he still has no campaign website! LAKE FOREST, CA, December 22, 2011 – Jimmy Pequeno, the 18-year-old son of an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy, remains in a coma after being badly injured in a car accident on July 1. Jimmy, a senior at El Toro High School, suffered multiple brain traumas, broken bones and other injuries. He has endured numerous surgeries and procedures in his fight towards recovery but six months later he has yet to regain “full consciousness.” Continue reading

Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana Launches “It Just Takes One” Campaign
SANTA ANA, Calif.-The Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana passed a board resolution on January 10, 2011 to implement the “It Just Takes One” Campaign. The Board has committed to the campaign goal of raising $80,000 through strengthening relationships with individuals.
The concept behind “It Just Takes One” is that the strongest, most consistent support for the Club can be found in individual relationships. Board members have committed to 100% Board participation, and will continue the campaign with face-to-face solicitations and a direct mail piece, followed by a campaign celebration in late spring.
“Our Board’s commitment to the ‘One’ Campaign is just another example of this group showing its dedication to the Santa Ana community,” said Silvia Edwards-Fidanza, the Club’s Resource Development Committee Chair. “We are looking forward to connecting with more individuals during the campaign and to meeting our $80,000 goal.”
Last year, the Board adopted the “One” Campaign for the first time with a goal of $70,000. They managed to raise just over $78,000, and they look forward to another successful year. Thank you to our Board for their continued commitment, and thank you to all our supporters.
The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Ana provides academic, physical fitness and like skills programs to over 2,700 children each year at seven sites throughout Santa Ana.
