The Orange County District Attorney’s Office has cleared Detective David Prewett, an SAPD police officer who shot and killed Steve Salgado, an unarmed 18-year-old, who was running from members of the Santa Ana Police Department’s Gang Suppression Unit, according to the O.C. Register.
The incident happened on Jan. 29, at around 4:40 p.m., at the 400 block of South Birch St., in Santa Ana, when Prewett and five other SAPD police officers were patrolling the neighborhood when the saw an occupied vehicle parked in the middle of an alley, effectively blocking street traffic. Santa Ana, CA – JULY 13, 2017. Working to combat gang violence in Santa Ana, today Acting Chief David Valentin released a gang suppression plan. This plan is a coordinated suppression strategy in response to the City’s seven gang-related homicides and other documented gang related crimes, thus far in 2017, that targets gang related offenders and the most violent gangs. The core of the Department’s strategy will include the redeployment of officers from throughout the department to field gang activity suppression. Officers deployed to the department’s anti-gang units, will provide seven day a week coverage, enhancing the current strategy of four days a week coverage. Continue reading
Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Santa Ana police tried to stop a vehicle for various violations including no license plate and no seatbelts, according to NBC News.
The driver, a documented gang member who was later identified as Jesus Arturo Martinez, refused to pull over so the police began to pursue his vehicle on local streets at speeds that topped 90 mph. At one point the suspect even drove the wrong way on the street, according to the SAPD. Continue reading

The Tustin Police Department is investigating a shooting which resulted in homicide, on Sunday, July 9. The incident occurred on Mitchell St. between Red Hill and Browning, at about 3:56 p.m., according to the Tustin Police Department.
The deceased man has been identified as 23-year-old Israel Corpus of Tustin, according to the O.C. Coroner. Corpus died at the Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana. Continue reading

The brief break in reported shootings in Santa Ana appears to be over as two minors were wounded at about 12:45 a.m. this morning at the 1600 block of South Evergreen St., by Madison Park, according to the O.C. Register.
The victim included two males and a female, who were apparently walking along the street when a vehicle pulled up and an armed male suspect got out of it. He began to fire multiple shots at the victims. One male and the female were injured in their lower extremities with what were described as non-life threatening wounds. Advisory: Homicide Detectives Investigating Shooting Death 200 block South Cedar Street
On Sunday, May 21, 2017 at approximately 6:00 a.m. the Tustin Police Department responded to a report of a man down on the front of a residence in the 600 block of W. Main Street in Tustin. Orange County Fire Authority Paramedics pronounced the male deceased.
Tustin PD initiated a homicide investigation. After lengthy investigation, it was determined the victim was shot during a gang-related shooting which occurred in the area of 200 South Cedar Street, Santa Ana. Continue reading

On Tuesday, April 18 at about 4:30 p.m., at 600 S. Standard, in a residential neighborhood, SAPD police officers were dispatched to the area after reports of a shooting that had just occurred, according to SAPD Case # CI#: 17-10369.
Upon arrival the police officers located several shell casings at the scene. Based on witness information, a Hispanic male adult was walking northbound on the west sidewalk of 600 S. Standard as a vehicle, occupied by several subjects, approached driving southbound. A passenger from the vehicle fired several gun shots at the subject walking on the sidewalk. Continue reading
