Thang Van Nguyen, 46, turned himself in at a Garden Grove fire station this morning, at about 6:45 a.m., and said he had murdered his wife in their apartment, according to the O.C. Register.
When he took officers to his home in the 12700 block of Flower Street, his 44-year-old wife Huong Nguyen was found conscious, but with several stab wounds from a large meat cleaver, officials said, according to CBS News. Continue reading

Phung Dinh Le of Garden Grove, a 19-year-old man, has died after being shot in the head in what the SAPD is terming a gang-related attack early on Sunday morning, at 2 a.m., at the 2800 block of West Edinger, near Centennial Regional Park, according to the O.C. Register.

MAN CONVICTED OF BEATING DEATH OF 2-YEAR-OLD CHILD
SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man was convicted yesterday of assaulting a 2-year-old child causing his death. Lae Thong Thongpun, 33, Garden Grove, was found guilty by a jury yesterday, Dec. 14, 2015, of one felony count of involuntary manslaughter and one felony count of assault on a child under 8 years of age with force likely to cause great bodily injury, causing death. He faces a maximum sentence of 55 years to life in state prison. The court will hear a bifurcated trial on the defendant’s prior sentencing enhancements for a prior strike conviction for a first degree burglary in 2007 in Los Angeles County at his sentencing scheduled Feb. 5, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-44, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
At the time of the crime, Thongpun was in a romantic relationship with a woman and lived with her and her two young children in an apartment in Garden Grove. Continue reading

Nearly 10 percent of transportation agency’s workforce is made up of those who served in the military

Advisory: SAPD Detectives Arrest Suspect For Multiple Counts Of Sexual Assault
At approximately 4:30 pm on November 10, 2015, Santa Ana Police Special Crimes Section detectives arrested 33-year-old Barry Moore for multiple counts of sexual assault. Moore’s victims included two minors and one adult. Moore was arrested in Westminster, California without incident.
The case involved Moore and three (3) females between the ages of 14 and 22. Two of the sexual assaults occurred in 2010 and one in 2013. The crimes occurred in Santa Ana and Garden Grove. Continue reading
An unidentified man was shot through the cheeks while driving his white Lexus SUV on Sunday night, at around 10 p.m., with is wife and child in the vehicle, at the 11200 block of Westminster Blvd., in Garden Grove, in Little Saigon, according to the O.C. Register.
The man was badly wounded and appears to have been the victim of a possible street racing feud, according to Garden Grove Police.

An unidentified 81-year-old Santa Ana man was struck on Friday morning at 6:17 a.m., while crossing the right-hand northbound lane of Fairview Road, 50 yards south of Baker Street, in Costa Mesa, causing two lanes to be closed during the investigation, according to the O.C. Register.
The elderly victim was walking eastbound when Bao Hoai Duong, 52 of Garden Grove, who was driving a 2002 Dodge van northbound on Fairview Road, struck him. Continue reading

What a way to start the week! A man who is suspected of assault with a deadly weapon was reported to be inside of a stolen car at 6:30 a.m. near Bristol Street and Edinger in Santa Ana, but when the SAPD showed up he took off, according to the O.C. Register.
The SAPD reported that the man was driving a green Honda Accord that was also involved in a felony assault with a deadly weapon incident. No further details about the auto theft were made available by the SAPD.
The police pursued the suspect at speeds of up to 90 mph, driving through the cities of Santa Ana, Fountain Valley and Garden Grove. Continue reading

A gang-related shooting took place on Friday afternoon at about 2:18 p.m. just a few blocks west of Santa Ana, at the 12600 block of Keel Avenue, in Garden Grove, according to the O.C. Register.
The Garden Grove Police Department responded to the shooting, at an apartment complex after a caller told them that two people had been shot. The police officers found the victims in the complex, near the playground. Continue reading

Concerned residents convinced the Garden Grove City Council, at their meeting tonight, to oppose the Orange County Vector Control District’s plans to conduct aerial spraying of mosquito poison over our homes. The Garden Grove City Council is sending a letter to the Vector Control District asking them to delay the spraying and hold public hearings, according to KCBS News.
A Facebook group committed to stopping the spraying now has over 1,500 members. Click here to join. Many of these concerned residents protested at the offices of the Vector Control District, in Garden Grove, today.
As usual the Vector Control District is trying to scare us but the reality is that this spraying is not necessary. They are doing it to justify their budget and their continued pilfering of our property tax dollars. Continue reading
