Valley is Four Time Champions of National Culinary Arts Competition

(Santa Ana, CA) – The Culinary Arts Team of High School Inc. at Valley High School did it again! They are the national champions of the Cooking Up Change Culinary Arts competition for the fourth time in five years. Congratulations to Rosa Aguilar, Daisy Lagunas, and Mariah Macias for proudly representing Santa Ana while facing tough competition from nine other cities across the United States to bring home a 1st place finish.

The road to becoming champions began with a regional competition hosted locally by Kid Healthy and Northgate Gonzalez Market as part of a national program, founded by Healthy Schools Campaign, based in Chicago. As a requirement of the competition, students must work within the constraints of school food service including limited ingredients, tight budgets, and limited steps to produce the full meal. The team did just that. After creating a delicious meal that included Moroccan stuffed zucchini, Moroccan salad, and spiced pear cups, the trio captured the attention of the judges and were awarded 1st place out of 11 high schools in Orange County who competed in the 5th annual Cooking Up Change® competition. DRAMATIC GRADUATION RATE WITH HIGH SCHOOL INC. PROGRAM

A Business Partnership with the Santa Ana Unified School District produces a 98.5 percent graduation rate

SANTA ANA, CA., (August 20, 2015)— With a focus on preparing students for college and careers, students participating in the High School Inc. program at Valley High School in Santa Ana, California are experiencing a near-perfect graduation rate. Santa Ana Valley High School, which has an enrollment of about 2200 students, reports that 98.5-percent of students who completed the three-year High School Inc. program are graduating. “The program has nearly a 100-percent success rate, which is incredibly compelling statistics” said Donnie Crevier, High School Inc. Foundation Board Member.

High School Inc. is a revolutionary program started in 2007 that prepares students for a modern day workplace. Businesses are becoming more engaged and profiting through a skilled workforce, and communities are being strengthened with job growth and an increased sense of pride. Continue reading→

Three High School Inc. Students Win at National Culinary Competition
High School Inc., workforce development students put skills to the test

SANTA ANA – Ashley Blanco, Alejandro Hernandez and Ivan Lopez, senior Culinary Arts and Hospitality students in the High School Inc. Academies at Valley High School, were first-place winners in a recent competition in Washington, D.C. The team cooked a healthy meal that teens across American have indicated they would like to eat at their school cafeteria.

This was part of a national organization that promotes healthy eating in schools to lower childhood obesity that is prevalent in the poor neighborhoods of Santa Ana and others across the nation. The Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce began its High School Inc. program five years ago in an effort to build a stronger economic base by empowering youth to train for careers before they graduate from high school. Extreme Kitchen Makeover, High School Inc.

Culinary delicacies of Spain, a Tapas Party is being held on Friday, September 10, 2010, at 6:00 p.m., Hilton Anaheim, for the High School Inc., Culinary Arts & Hospitality Program.

This is a first-time fund-raiser for the outdated kitchen at Santa Ana Valley High School. 10th – 12th grade students are being trained to enter into the workforce to start a career in the food and customer service jobs for Southern California.

The Santa Ana Chamber of Commerce workforce development program, High School Inc., works with Santa Ana Valley High School students. The school was adopted to become the education to work & college training program.

Three years ago several industries were identified as future high employment needs to sustain the economy and the 2,400 students are a vast group to tap.

The High School Inc. Program has interested students, but the school has a great need to upgrade the kitchen that was originally designed for homemakers of the 1950’s. “Back in the day” when the school was built, during the era of U.S. President Harry S. Truman, the kitchen was for the Home Economics class, however, modern times, the 21st century demands for training with industrial culinary equipment and facilities.

Restaurateurs, executive chefs, and business owners have seen the kitchen and students, they lent their support for the Extreme Kitchen Makeover. The fund-raiser seeks support and below are some event sponsors:
