SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man and a woman are scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow for conspiring to file a fraudulent insurance claim and falsely alleging police misconduct when the accident report was not consistent with their untrue statements.

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A woman was charged yesterday with fatal hit-and-run and insurance fraud after leaving the victim at the scene and falsely reporting the damage as vandalism to her insurance company and police. Belen Sicairos, 23, Santa Ana, was charged on Feb. 15, 2017, with one felony count of hit-and-run causing death, three felony counts of insurance fraud, one felony count of insurance fraud through a written claim, and one misdemeanor count of falsely reporting a crime. If convicted, Sicairos faces a maximum of eight years in state prison. The defendant was arrested today by Orange County District Attorney (OCDA) Investigators, and her arraignment date is to be determined. Continue reading

SANTA ANA, Calif. – An employee for a building remodeling company was sentenced today to six months in county jail for cashing in disability checks under the false pretense of being unable to work. Angel Monzon, 53, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty on Feb. 18, 2015, to one felony count of insurance fraud and two felony counts of making fraudulent statements. He was sentenced to 180 days in Orange County jail and three years of probation. Monzon paid over $25,000 in restitution.
On April 19, 2010, Monzon worked as a granite installer for Fermol Inc. in Huntington Beach. While working, Monzon lost his balance and fell while carrying a large piece of granite, which broke and landed on the defendant’s right thigh and knee. SANTA ANA, Calif. – A woman was arraigned yesterday, May 2, 2016, on charges of submitting a fraudulent insurance claim over $16,000 for a vehicle being driven by a relative in a minor collision. Amezcua Alejandra Rodriguez, 40, Santa Ana, is charged with two felony counts of insurance fraud. If convicted, Rodriguez faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison. Rodriguez is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing June 17, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
On May 29, 2015, Rodriguez’s relative was involved in a minor vehicle collision by hitting a guardrail in Garden Grove. Rodriguez is accused of not being in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Continue reading

SANTA ANA – Sixteen uninsured drivers were charged with insurance fraud for attempting to purchase an insurance policy, reinstate a lapsed policy, or add additional coverage after being involved in a car accident. The defendants below each face a maximum sentence ranging from one year in jail for misdemeanors to five years in state prison for the felony charges with enhancements. The defendants charged in these cases were a part of Operation Crash and Buy, which was a statewide operation cracking down on fraudulent insurance claims from uninsured drivers.
“Unfortunately, this type of insurance crime is surprisingly common,” said Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones. “Insurance fraud is an expensive drain on the state’s economy that totals into the billions of dollars annually in California. This is not a victimless crime. The costs of these scams are passed along to consumers through higher rates and premiums–everyone pays for insurance fraud.” Continue reading

EMPLOYEE TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR CASHING DISABILITY CHECKS UNDER FALSE PRETENSE OF BEING UNABLE TO WORK

SANTA ANA – An employee for a building remodeling company is scheduled to be arraigned today for cashing in disability checks under the false pretense of being unable to work. Angel Monzon, 51, Santa Ana, is charged with 24 felony counts of insurance fraud, seven felony counts of perjury under oath, and four felony counts of making fraudulent statements. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in state prison. He is being held on $39,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.
