The Great Picture: The World’s Largest Photograph & The Legacy Project Opens November 5

IRVINE – The Great Picture: The World’s Largest Photograph & The Legacy Project is a multimedia exhibition that tells the compelling story of how six artist/photographers and their friends came together to build what the Guinness Book of World Records acknowledges as the “world’s largest pinhole camera” (also known as a Camera Obscura) at the Orange County Great Park. This exhibition documents how the Legacy Project artists activated their gigantic camera to create the world’s largest photograph. Protesters now planning on occupying Santa Ana, Irvine and Orange

Support Occupy Orange County CA is going to occupy Orange on Saturday, Oct. 8, beginning at 12:00 noon and ongoing through the afternoon.

Santa Ana residents startled by 3.5 earthquake centered in Irvine area

Santa Ana residents were startled by a 3.5 magnitude earthquake at 2:56 am today, September 15, which was based eight miles away, in the San Joaquin Hills (near UCI), according to the U.S. Geographical Survey USGS).

SANTA ANA – A drunken driver has been charged with murdering his nephew and severely injuring his brother-in-law after driving while intoxicated and refusing the offer of a bartender and police officer to call him a cab. Tapu Aniceto Sitagata, 27, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count each of murder, driving under the influence causing bodily injury, driving with a blood alcohol .08 percent or more causing bodily injury, hit and run with injury, and one misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license. Why not name the O.C. Great Park after Harvey Milk?

Will Irvine Mayor Beth Krom support naming the O.C. Great Park after Harvey Milk?

While everyone has been focusing on the ruckus between Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Claudia Alvarez and the Chase family, at last night’s special session of the Santa Ana City Council, there was one other controversial item on the agenda.

The Council named a city-owned plaza that is in the East End Promenade, formerly the Fiesta Marketplace.  They chose to name it the Plaza Santa Ana.

An Irvine blogger ripped this decision and he questioned why the City Council did not name the Plaza after Harvey Milk, the gay San Francisco politician who was murdered by another Supervisor.  Milk has since become an icon of the gay movement. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to six years and four months in state prison for committing hate crime arson by lighting three fires at an Irvine church and attempting to set the church on fire because he was disgruntled with the church’s teachings regarding masturbation. Izad Chavoshan, 32, Huntington Beach, pleaded guilty to the court Aug. 9, 2011, to three felony counts of arson, one felony count of attempted arson, and a hate crime sentencing enhancement.
