MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR AIDING IN THREE DEFENDANTS’ ESCAPE FROM OCJ BY PROVIDING MONEY AND ALCOHOL

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man is scheduled to be arraigned today for aiding in three defendants’ escape from the Orange County Men’s Central Jail (OCJ) by providing them with money and alcohol. Tung Nguyen, 41, Westminster, is charged with one felony count of being an accessory after the fact. If convicted, Nguyen faces a maximum sentence of three years in state prison. Nguyen is scheduled to be arraigned today, March 14, 2016, in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.

Between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. on Jan. 22, 2016, Hossein Nayeri, Duong, and Jonathan Tieu are accused of escaping custody from OCJ through pipelines and by rappelling themselves down from the building’s roof. Continue reading→

Update on Jail Escape Investigation

SANTA ANA, Calif. (February 4, 2016) – The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has initiated an internal administrative investigation into the circumstances of the jail escape in January of 2016 involving inmates Bac Duong, Hossein Nayeri, and Jonathan Tieu from the Central Men’s Jail.

“I have been very clear from the onset of the jail escape investigation that I am deeply concerned about the length of time it took to recognize that three maximum security inmates were unaccounted for,” said Sheriff Sandra Hutchens. “I have initiated an internal administrative investigation to determine the facts of what occurred, contributing factors to the escape and inmate count procedures. Until the investigation is complete, I am unable to discuss it further. Please know that we have taken immediate action to ensure that this situation will not happen again. OVER 50 OCDA PERSONNEL INVOLVED IN HELPING TO CAPTURE AND PREPARING CASES FOR PROSECUTION RELATING TO THE JAIL ESCAPE

*Arraignments on captured escapees will likely be on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016

SANTA ANA, Calif. – More than 50 Orange County District Attorney Office (OCDA) personnel were involved in the assistance of the investigation and the preparation for the cases relating to the jail escape. On Monday, Feb. 1, 2016, we will discuss any charges other individuals face due to their involvement in the escape of Bac Tien Duong, 43, Hossein Nayeri, 37, Newport Beach, and Jonathan Tieu, 20, Fountain Valley, through planning, assistance during the escape, or harboring the three inmates after the fact. Why has no one at the OC Central Men’s Jail been disciplined over the recent escape?

January was a bad month for O.C. Sheriff Sandra Hutchens. Not only did three inmates escape from the O.C. Central Men’s Jail – a Deputy Sheriff also left an AR-15 rifle on the trunk of his car and drove off. That weapon has still not been recovered.

ESL teacher suspected of helping the escaped OC Jail inmates is arrested

Nooshafarian Ravaghi, 44, of Lake Forest, an English as a Second Language teacher from the Rancho Santiago Community College District who worked in the OC Central Men’s Jail has been arrested, according to the O.C. Register.

Ravaghi allegedly helped the three escaped inmates – Hossein Nayeri, Jonathan Tieu and Bac Duong to escape by providing them with Google Maps and in other ways not yet disclosed by the OC Sheriff.

The motive?  Apparently Ravaghi and Nayeri exceeded their student-teacher association as they developed what has been described as a “closer relationship.” Continue reading→

JAIL ESCAPE

MESSAGE FROM SHERIFF SANDRA HUTCHENS

“Last night, three inmates escaped from Men’s Central Jail in Santa Ana. We are utilizing every resource available to ensure these inmates are brought back into custody as quickly as possible. As Sheriff, my utmost concern and primary responsibility is the safety of each Orange County resident. I take this situation very seriously and the men and woman of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will not rest until all three men are captured.

“The three escapees, Hossein Nayeri, Jonathan Tieu, and Bac Tien Duong, are dangerous criminals. My investigations team is working around the clock with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the Orange County Probation Office, the U.S. Marshals and the FBI. I am confident that this collaborative effort will result in returning these inmates to where they belong- behind bars. Continue reading→
