The Santa Ana City Council Majority – David Benavides, Sal Tinajero, Vince Sarmiento and Jose Solorio

The Santa Ana City Council majority decided at their last-minute special meeting today to sue Mayor Miguel Pulido for not placing their illegal district election measure on the June Primary Election ballot, according to an inside source.

Apparently our City Attorney, Sonia Carvalho, hired an outside counsel to help her aid the City Council majority, which is currently comprised of Council Members David Benavides, Sal Tinajero, Vince Sarmiento and Jose Solorio, come to this awful decision. Continue reading→

SAPD Police Chief Rojas gets caught promoting Supervisor Do while in uniform

In yet another screw-up by SAPD Police Chief Carlos Rojas, he allowed himself to be included in a picture that featured him in his uniform on a political mailer promoting O.C. Supervisor Andrew Do (a Republican from Garden Grove). Never mind the fact that Do is running against one of Rojas’ bosses, Santa Ana City Councilwoman Michele Martinez, the fact is that it is a a violation of Government Code and Departmental Policies for our Police Chief to appear, in uniform, in a campaign mailer.

The matter was investigated at City Hall and while it was determined that Rojas was “unaware the picture was taken” and Rojas claimed that he did not give permission for the photo to be used by Do’s campaign.

How can our Police Chief be so clueless that he would not observe someone taking his picture in a crowded room during an important meeting? Continue reading→

The City Council is reportedly scheming to dump Cavazos if Martinez gets elected in Nov.

Apparently several Santa Ana City Council members are scheming to get rid of our overpaid City Manager, David Cavazos, if Santa Ana City Council Member Michele Martinez is successful in her campaign for the First Supervisorial District, in the upcoming November Primary Election, according to one of our City Hall pajaritos.

The plan, which appears to be the work of City Council Member David Benavides, is to convince the rest of the City Council to replace Martinez on the City Council, should she move on to the O.C. Board of Supervisors, with Planning Commissioner Phil Bacerra. He would then join Benavides and three other City Council Members, and Mayor Miguel Pulido, in voting to fire Cavazos. Ratones found at several eateries at MainPlace Mall’s food court

There are still a few cultures in the world that enjoy eating rodents. For example guinea pigs are a delicacy in Peru, where many people eat them as their birthday meal. And hillbillies here in the U.S. still like to dig into squirrel stew. But for the most part, here in the U.S., Americans do not like the thought of mice in the kitchen, despite Pixar’s popular Ratatouille movie.

With that in mind, a recent inspection by the O.C. Health Care Agency, at the MainPlace Mall, which was recently sold, turned up rodent infestations at several of the food court eateries, according to the O.C. Register.

MAN CHARGED WITH ILLEGALLY REIMBURSING CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS OVER $13,000 TO BE ARRAIGNED

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) has charged a man with illegally reimbursing contributors for Janet Nguyen’s 2012 Orange County Board of Supervisors election campaign. Son Truong Nguyen, 38, Fountain Valley, is charged with 10 misdemeanor counts of unlawful contribution. If convicted on all counts, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of one year in Orange County jail and a $10,000 fine. Charges were filed Oct. 28, 2015, and an arraignment letter was sent out yesterday for Son Nguyen to appear in court on Nov. 24, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-54, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

Between Nov. 2, 2011, and Jan. 30, 2012, Son Nguyen is accused of illegally reimbursing campaign contributors for Janet Nguyen’s 2012 Orange County Board of Supervisors election on 10 different occasions. He is accused of reimbursing a total of $13,300. Continue reading→

The rise and fall of Latino political power in Central Orange County

A Los Angeles Times analysis of election results shows how Republicans can still win because Asian American voter turnout is so much higher than Latino turnout. The outcome, of an analysis of the recent Special Election in the 34th State Senate District, found that in the core of Santa Ana, where voting heavily favored Correa, only 22% of the absentee voters got around to returning their ballots, far below the state and county’s 50% return rate for absentee ballots in the 2014 general election. The unreturned ballots represented tens of thousands of votes.

The bad news for the Orange County Democrats is that Orange County’s famed blue donut hole, in Central Orange County, is now mostly red. The only Democratic Legislators left are U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez and State Assemblyman Tom Daly. Continue reading→

The Democrats have only themselves to blame for their losses in Orange County

Orange County’s self-appointed Latino leaders are blaming the 2011 redistricting (that added more Vietnamese voters to the First Supervisorial District while removing Latino voters) for Lou Correa’s loss to Andrew Do in the January 27 First District Special Election, according to the O.C. Register.

The truth is that the Democratic Party of Orange County’s bizarre decision to give then Supervisor Janet Nguyen a free pass in 2012 has now cost the Democrats not only the First District but also the 34th State Senate District, which Nguyen won in last year’s General Election. And the Democrats might also lose the 46th Congressional District in 2016 if Nguyen comes gunning for the incumbent, U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez. Continue reading→

Orange County now has a majority Asian-American Board of Supervisors

Andrew Do’s defeat of former State Senator Lou Correa in the Jan. 27 First District Special Election has made history by creating a majority Asian Board of Supervisors here in Orange County.

Other Asian County Supervisors include Michelle Steel, a Korean-American who replaced John Moorlach after moving into Orange County from Los Angeles County, and Lisa Barlett, a Japanese-American who replaced Pat Bates. Both Moorlach and Bates termed out. Continue reading→

Could Loretta Sanchez lose her seat to Janet Nguyen in 2016?

Janet Nguyen was just elected this past November to the 34th State Senate District but in two short years she will have a chance to challenge U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez in the 46th Congressional District.

Nguyen was elected to a four year State Senate term. She can run for her State Senate seat three times, for a total of 12 years of service. Sanchez has to run every two years but has no term limits. Continue reading→

Unless Lou Correa starts attacking Andrew Do, he is going to lose big on 1/27

Do is kissing up to those old, white voters…

I hate to say this but after seeing two of Lou Correa’s First District campaign mailers I am convinced that he is going to lose. He is running the same tepid campaign that helped Jose Solorio get his butt kicked in the November General Election, by Janet Nguyen, over in the race for the 34th State Senate District.

Why isn’t Correa attacking Andrew Do – Nguyen’s former Chief of Staff? While Correa is blowing hundreds of thousands sending “nice” mailers replete with pictures of him painting over graffiti, Do is busy working the Viet community – and Do’s mailers are clearly geared to the old, white Republican voters who still matter in the First District.

Correa’s campaign seems to be entirely focused on Latino voters – just like Solorio’s was. They didn’t vote last year in either the Primary or the General Election. Why would they vote in a Special Election in January? They are not going to! And no amount of pandering by Correa to the Viet voters is going to convince any of them not to vote for Do!
