Jesus Canales, 24, of Santa Ana, aAn ex-fugitive who spent years on the county’s most-wanted list after he gunned down a 16-year-old gang rival and fled to Mexico, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Friday, according to the O.C. Register.

Co-defendant Juan Manuel “Stitch” Galvan, 25, Santa Ana, was charged on July 25, 2011, with one felony count of murder and one felony count of street terrorism, with sentencing enhancements for criminal street gang activity and vicarious discharge of a firearm causing death. Galvan eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter in exchange for his testimony against Canales and he was ultimately sentenced to six years in jail. Continue reading→

A snitch helped to convict a Santa Ana gangbanger of killing a teenager

Jesus Canales, a 24-year-old man who gunned down a teenage rival gang member in Santa Ana and then fled to Mexico, where he was on the lam for five years, was convicted Tuesday of first-degree murder, according to the O.C. Register.

GANG MEMBER EXTRADITED FROM MEXICO TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR 2011 MURDER OF 16-YEAR-OLD RIVAL IN SANTA ANA

*Co-defendant was arrested shortly after the murder and is awaiting trial

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A gang member who was extradited from Mexico last week is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow for the 2011 murder of a 16-year-old rival in Santa Ana. Jesus Canales, 23, Santa Ana, was charged on July 25, 2011, with one felony count of special circumstances first degree murder committed for a criminal street gang purpose and one felony count of street terrorism, with sentencing enhancements for criminal street gang activity and discharge of a firearm causing death. If convicted, he faces a minimum sentence of life in state prison. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow, Dec. 13, 2016, in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana.

Arrested Jesus Canales (23) – Charge Homicide

On Friday, July 22, 2011, a gang-related shooting occurred at the 300 block of East Washington Ave. The victim, a male juvenile, died as a result. During the investigation SAPD Homicide Detectives identified Jesus Canales, 18-years old at the time of the shooting, as one of the suspects. A warrant was issued for his arrest. Continue reading→

Advisory: WANTED HOMICIDE SUSPECT & UNSOLVED 2011 GANG HOMICIDES

The Santa Ana Police Department Gang Unit investigated six gang related homicides in 2011. Four of the six homicides were solved with a total of seventeen suspects arrested. Two cases remain unsolved and one suspect remains at large. SANTA ANA POLICE SEEK THE HELP OF MEDIA AND COMMUNITY TO APPREHEND SHOOTER IN MURDER THAT OCCURRED 7-22-2011

Santa Ana Police Gang Homicide Detectives are seeking the public’s help with locating a suspect wanted in connection to a murder that occurred on 7-22-2011.

On 7-22-2011 at 2235 hours, officers were dispatched to 327 E. Washington Ave, for a shooting that had just occurred.  Upon arrival, officers found a 16 year old who had been wounded by gunfire.  Santa Ana Paramedics transported him to Western Medical Center, Santa Ana where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
