Who should replace Tom Daly as the O.C. Clerk-Recorder?

Jordan Brandman has won a seat on the Anaheim City Council and now his colleagues on the Anaheim Union High School District’s Board of Education must decide whether to appoint someone to replace him or to hold a Special Election to fill his seat.

The last time the AUHSD School Board replaced a Trustee was this year when Trustee Jan Harp-Domene passed away suddenly earlier this year.  The Board replaced her with Annmarie Randle-Trejo who went on to win a permanent place on the AUHSD School Board in this year’s general election, according to Smart Voter. Two winners – U.S. Rep. Loretta Sanchez and Pres. Barack Obama

Fullerton residents are in shock today as they deal with the fact that Assemblyman Chris Norby now needs a job, having lost to Fullerton Mayor Sharon Quirk-Silva. She ran an aggressive campaign and made heavy use of social media. Norby, on the other hand, seemed to be trying to coast to victory.

While Quirk-Silva’s victory is a great one for Orange County’s Latino voters, I am saddened to see that the 69th Assembly District is now represented by Tom Daly. There is no way he will win re-election in two years, but for now we are stuck with him.

Solorio to host a campaign fundraiser and birthday party on 9/27

Assemblyman Jose Solorio is hosting a cocktail reception to kick-off his campaign for the Rancho Santiago College District’s Board of Education, and to celebrate his 42nd birthday, on Thursday, September 27, 2012, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, at Original Mike’s, located at 100 South Main Street, in Downtown Santa Ana.

Solorio is a big fan of white male politicians

Assemblyman Jose Solorio wants to force insurance companies in California to buy services from minority owned businesses. He sent out a press release today announcing that “AB 53, authored by State Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Anaheim), has passed the Legislature and awaits the Governor’s signature. The legislation would encourage California’s insurance industry to consider diversity when entering into procurement contracts.”

The release also indicated that “Specifically, AB 53 requires major California insurers to file a report with the Insurance Commissioner regarding their outreach and procurement practices involving businesses owned by women, minorities, and disabled veterans.” Continue reading→

The hard hats aren’t with Tom Daly now!

The OC and CA Labor Federations held a meeting this week to meet the candidates for office here in Orange County.  As one might expect, Tom Daly, the Democratic nominee for the 69th Assembly District failed to show up but he asked for their endorsement anyway.  It turned out to be an epic fail for Daly.

Daly was completely rejected – and he should be. This two-faced hack says one thing to the Labor Federation then he goes over to the OC Taxpayers Association and says something else altogether. Floral Park neighbors battle over RSCCD’s Area 5

Rancho Santiago Community College District Trustees Mark McLoughlin and Dave Chapel both live in Santa Ana’s upscale Floral Park neighborhood and now, thanks to redistricting, they have to run against each other, in November, for the new Area 5.  One of them will lose and face the end of his political career.

Chapel complained about the redistricting in an email that the OC Weekly got a hold of.  But he could not stop progress.  The neat thing about the redistricting is that the Rancho elections are now area-specific.   Continue reading→

Solorio to run for the Rancho Santiago Community College District’s B.O.E.

Assemblyman Jose Solorio chose not to run against Supervisor Janet Nguyen in November, but he announced this afternoon, via email, that he is running for Area One of the Rancho Santiago Community College District’s Board of Education.

Solorio’s wife is a public school teacher, I believe at Santa Ana’s Valley High School.  This would seem to be a good fit for him but it is a part-time job.  He has not yet announced what his other employment plans will be.

One  hangup for Solorio is that he voted in the past year to de-fund the County of Orange to the tune of about fifty million per year.  He was promised by Assembly Speaker John Perez that the State Legislature would find a way to return that money to the County of Orange.  That never happened and the County ended up in a lawsuit with the State of California.  If the State prevails the money will have to come out of the County’s education budget.
